John Hayes was what you may have called a hopeful futurist. Constantly thinking about how the near, far, and relatively mid future would develop and he had been pretty hopeful. To the point that he decided to have himself cryogenically frozen when he had a chronic illness in hopes that he would one day be resuscitated. There were a lot of issues with this including the likelihood that the company would go defunct and his thawing corpse would be dumped somewhere, that the freezing would actually kill him beyond repair, etc. Still he had hopes he maybe able to live. A long time later John Hayes woke up in a hospital room where there was a young lady with long rainbow hair sitting, no. it wasn't rainbow like a few clumps were dyed one way, but each strand was constantly shifting the roygbiv colors.
"Hello slee-"
"Is that natural?" John asked "Your hair, sorry but it's going to bother me."
The young lady tilted her head a bit "Natural? Oh yes I'm quite a natural at growing my hair. Sad some people can't."
"No I mean the color. Were you born with rainbow hair?"
"Oh no, I got it changed when I was seven. Anyways feeling sleepy still or-
A robotic voice spoke "Hello unidentified human male, you have been resuscitated after the automated scavenger teams found your pod in the middle of no where."
"And I'm here to greet people when they wake up. I think they like having a human around." The rainbow lady said. It disquieted John a bit since she seemed in her late twenties but seemed very naive.
"Umm, hello A.I.? I was just in the mid twentieth century A.D. perhaps there's a synopsis of general advancements or something?"
"I dunno what a Synop Sis is, but if you need someone to be one I can be a Sis!" the rainbow lady said
"History is long, but as far as you would care the exponential growth of technology has made automation and convenience extremely affordable. Currently we are living in a post scarcity society and humanity as a whole has gotten Lazy." John looked at rainbow lady again who didn't seem overweight, or had any health problems. Then again.
"Mentally Lazy?"
"Currently it is hypothesized that the average human is somewhere around a Parrot in terms of speech patterns." The A.I. said which seemed at least a bit too cynical. Then again if this Rainbow lady was anything to go off of.
"Well, if we're in a post scarcity society that means I could theoretically ask for anything available to the average man and I could get it?"
"Oh yes!" The Rainbow lady said "Mr AI! Can I get a fudge sundae?" then out from a wall popped out a robotic hand holding a pristine and decadent fudge sundae
"Would you like anything sir?" The A.I. voice asked
"Could... I get..." John thought "A clam chowder, but instead of clams make them scallops roasted just right. and the soup to be made into a foam drizzled on top!"
"Most Certainly!" John wondered if the A.I. had emotions as it seemed, enthused. From the wall popped out a plate with a few of the scallops and some molecularly gastronomically designed "soup" which John tried one with a fork and knife and it was to die for.
"Wow, I can't believe I can just- There isn't some absurdly high medical bill is there?" John asked
"No, post scarcity means post scarcity. The economy is basically not a thing anymore, you will not be charged"
"Hmm... so what to do now?" John pondered
"Have fun?" The Rainbow lady suggested
John stayed silent for a bit and then said "I mean if this is a post scarcity world, it wouldn't hurt to have some fun. What do people do for fun now? Sports, super video games, trying to make the weirdest food ever or something?"
The A.I. said "Mental faculties have been on average too low for challenging games or too creative endeavors. The latest most popular food is a condensed cheese ball, and people keep asking for it to be condensed even further."
"OOO Can I make a suggestion!" The Rainbow lady said
"Sure, what do you want to do?" John asked
