I'm not sure you want to hear about it," Justin dismissed her curiosity. It was his little project and soon he wouldn't be so little himself. She would find out by Monday when Justin strolled out looking like a tanned hulk. Having that image in his head made Justin wish that Monday would come sooner.
His sister wasn't so easily rebuffed, however. Sophie put a hand on her hips, eyebrow raised and the corner of her lip curled. She bared a sharp similarity to a gambler who realized they had the winning cards for the whole jackpot. "If you don't tell me what it is right now." The corners of her lips curled into a smile, "That it was your experiments which burned down the outside shed, last year and not some oil that caught fire through a piece of broken glass."
Justin went pale. The fire had almost spread to the house before it was put out. Sophie was going to make a good judge; she was ruthless. "Okay, but don't go telling anyone else." Justin went on to explain how his colored energy drinks were actually muscle growth serums and how each one could result in a different level of growth and strength, "Anyway I just need to run a few more tests to see if there anything, well unforeseen side effects."
When his sister stood there silent and eyes wide for a few minutes, Justin started to feel more than a little uncomfortable, "well, talk to you after dinner then," he hurried up the stairs.
The siblings didn't talk after dinner. Didn't talk at dinner much either.
Sophie tried to concentrate on her weekend homework yet couldn't her mind going back to her little brother's statement about creating a freaking growth serum. Sure he was a total wiz at chemistry and science that had more than earned him the title 'Science Geek. Still a growth potion?
She glanced at her arm giving it a little flex, she kept fit enough; once a week doing a circuit around the college gym, all good for keeping trim yet not for building muscle mass.
"Could be cool to have a biceps to flex."
Her phone rang to the tune of Brittny Spears 'hit me one more time.'
"Hello? Oh hi Amy." Amy Watz was her second closest friend after Maddy Clamhooein. "A little study party. In an hour. Who else will be there?" Sophie pressed up her lips, at least three others would be there, and if there were more it would lean from a study into a party. Amy was nice and all but wasn't the best student coasting about on passes rather than high grades.
All the same, a party would be nice, she didn't feel like studying in all honesty, "Sure Amy I'll be there in, let's say fifteen minutes." Shutting down her computer and putting her books away, Sophia grabbed her jacket and headed downstairs.
On the way she saw Justin put some sort of colorful liquid into a tog bag, "Ahh I'm beat, going to bed now," he yawned to himself. Leaving the tog bag by his door.
Sophia would never know what came over her if she went to all the shrinks in all the world. She grabbed the tog bag and quickened her walk out the door, into her car. Speeding to Amy's house like she was a bat out of heel or more accurately a thief.
And she knew what kind of punishments thievery, especially of potentially dangerous and unregistered chemicals.
Pulling up onto the sidewalk just parallel to Amy's house. Sophia waved at her dark-skinned friend who was standing waiting at the door. Sophia unzipped the tog bag gazing at what could potentially change the night for better or worse.
