Jennifer waited for the bus for several minutes, spending her time idly listening to music from her phone. As the bus lurched to a stop infront of her, she stepped into it. Jennifer had a friend who was just a few stops before her own, it was nice since it had made the morning commute less of a chore. Her name was Katherine Owens, they'd been friends growing up since Jennifer was about two. Their mothers were friends, which is how they originally met, or maybe it was at a daycare, Jennifer couldn't remeber. She was much more sporty than Jennifer, a proper track and field star. Her family wasn't as well off, but it never caused a rift between the two of them. "Hey Katherine." Jennifer said with a wave as she sat down next to her. "How's the morning going?"
Katherine turned to Jen, she had short black hair that contrasted Jennifer's long blonde. "Woah Jen, you ok?" she said casually.
"What do you mean? I'm fine." Jennifer said. Katherine raised an eyebrow, "Ok, you just looked abit pale is all, did you forget to eat breakfast or somethin'?
Jennifer looked down at her arm compared to Katherine's, she was abit paler. "Yea I forgot to grab something this morning." Jennifer's voice trailed off.
"Oh! I gotta question for you!" Katherine tapped Jennifer's hand, shifting in her seat to show her profile. "Mom said I need to get a haircut but does this kinda work for me? I think it looks good."
Jennifer looked at Katherine's hair, it was still short cut, at best a little shaggy around the edges, just barely starting to creep over her ears. "I think I agree with your mom Kat, your hairs kinda long."
Katherine frowned, pulled her now long hair into a ponytail. "I guess, mom says I shouldn't have it longer than my butt hah!" Katherine said dejected before turning it into a joke.
"So how did you do on that test yesterday? I don't think Mr. Wilson covered half of that stuff in class." Katherine asked, still fiddling with her hair.
"I don't think I did well, I agree, it feels like half the things he says are gibberish. I don't even know why I need to understand triangles, when am I ever going to be asked the interior angle of something?" Jennifer said sarcastically.
"Hey no need to convince me here sister." Katherine said as she nodded. "I wish I could just skip math all together."
"I wonder why mom was giving you a hard time with your hair. She hardly gives me any problems with mine." Jennifer replied, flicking her long dark hair. It was nice to have a sister like Katherine, just able to be able to talk about things like this so casually. She was technically older by a hour, something she teases Jennifer with on occasion, but over all she couldn't ask for a better friend.
"That's just because mom treats you like a little kid. You know she'd much rather argue with the big sister." Katherine grinned as she teased her age gap again. Katherine knew in the grand scheme of things single year wasn't much of a difference, but being one grade higher than Jennifer always put her beneath herself.
"N-no she doesn't." Jennifer's voice cracked a little as she was thrown back to being a high-school junior. "I think it's just because I look better with long hair than you." Jennifer said smugly.
Katherine looked back at Jennifer, "Uh huh, yea sure you do." she said sarcastically. Katherine thought to herself, she would never admit it, but her little sis did put the look on better than herself, the black hair complimented her pale complex far better than her own tanned body.
The bus finally arrived at the school as the now sisters walked off the bus, with a wave Katherine left for her senior classes as Jennifer headed inside.
