The cop came back and asked Jordan "You claim that this is your drivers' licence?"
Jordan nodded and said "Yes" but to Sam she sounded very uncertain.
"Get out of the car please"
Jordan looked at Sam. "I don't know what is going on. I suppose we just do as we are told" She then unbuckled her seat-belt and began to get out of the car.
Sam stayed in the passenger seat and watched. Jordan was made to stand still and the cop examined her. Eventually the police woman said "Stay here. Don't get back in the car". The cop then returned to her car and spoke at length on the radio.
A couple of minutes passed then another police car pulled over. This car was clearly branded as the state police. This time two male cops got out of the car. They consulted with the female cop then all three approached Jordan "Please turn around and place your hands on the roof of the car" the female cop instructed. Jordan did as she was told.
One of the male cops came around to the passenger side of the car and tapped on Sam's window. Sam wound down the window. "Yes sir?"
"Will you please get out of the car" Sam did as she was told. "Leave your bag" she was instructed.
Sam was told to go around to the other side of the car. He saw Jordan was being patted down by the female cop. Sam watched as the policewoman pulled out a pair of handcuffs "I'm arresting you on suspicion of using a stolen licence and driving a stolen car" Jordan's hands were cuffed together.
"It's my car. I am Jordan Presley" called Jordan "We are just going for a holiday at the beach"
"That's the problem. I don't think you are Jordan Presley. For one thing you are about 7 inches too tall"
"The height on the licence is just a mistake. I didn't correct it thinking it didn't really matter" Jordan was pleading.
The policewoman just stated "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer for advice before we ask you any questions. You have the right to have a lawyer with you during questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you before any questioning if you wish. If you decide to answer questions now without a lawyer present, you have the right to stop answering at any time. This conversation is being recorded"
Sam was asked by the male cop "Could I have your name and if possible show me some identification"
Sam replied "I'm Sam Colson, but I don't have any identification with me. Why is she being arrested?"
"You heard. On suspicion of using a stolen licence and driving a stolen car. Now are you going to come to the station peacefully or will we have to arrest you as well?"
"But I haven't done anything"
"Look lady. I don't want to arrest you. I could as you were in a car that we suspect is stolen and you have just told me you have no identification. Don't make me"
"Can I fetch my bag?" Sam wanted to at least keep the medallion safe. As far as she was aware it was in Jordan's handbag.
The male cop looked at the female cop who shook her head before answering "No. We need to search the car for stolen goods"
"Not even our handbags? It's that time of month for me. I need my pads" This was embarrassing to admit to out loud in front of the male cop.
Thankfully, the policewoman showed some sympathy. She retrieved the two handbags herself. "These can come back to the station with me. I will return them to you once the contents have been inspected"
"What about the car and the rest of our luggage?"
"It will be towed to the station where it will be searched"
Sam voluntarily sat in the back seat of the marked car beside the still cuffed Jordan. She said quietly to her colleague. "We are in deep shit"
She noticed Jordan was crying. Between sniffles Jordan replied "I'm so sorry". One of the male cops got into the driver's seat and started the car, before doing a U-turn and driving off. The female cop and the other male cop remained behind.
