As Mark drove them home, Ty said, "Mom, Dad, I want to thank you both for being so supportive!"
"Oh, it's nothing," Mark said.
"It's not 'nothing'," Ty insisted. "You both were tremendously supportive in helping Lisa and me avoid a potentially bad situation."
"Maria and Diego are intelligent and very considerate," June said. "I think they would have reached the same point without any help from us."
"That may be," said Ty, "but the fact is that you went to some significant effort to help us, and Lisa and I are both grateful."
"Well, I'm sure you'd have done the same for us," Mark said.
Ty realized that was true, but he still was amazed that this had grown out of his request that they all simply try to be a little more considerate to each other.
Mark said, "I hope Dustin isn't too jealous of the arrangement we've just agreed to for you and Lisa."
June said, "Although I don't think he's going to get a magic doorway, in the interest of fairness, we are going to have to relax our rules for him a bit as well."
Mark said, "If he has a girlfriend who is even half as considerate and responsible as Lisa has demonstrated herself to be, I won't have any problem with that."
Ty said, "I've already told Dustin that I'm willing do do things for him, within reason. I mean, things that don't harm anyone. For something like a doorway, we'd certainly ask for your permission."
"Thank you, Ty," Mark said.
"I know we can count on your resposibility," June said.
