Damon waited for his new owner to return. He had been curious regarding his food to come. Probably slugs and insects and bugs. But now that he really WAS a toad, well, he was set with after-thoughts. Eating bugs suddenly felt rather less engaging... Also, Monica had a cat. He hoped that the feline would not be too intrusive or aggressive but he recalled Monica laughing that Delilah was a big scaredy cat that was even afraid of fat mice! A big toad croaking and jumping at her should do the trick, Damon reasoned. Croaking loudly and being large would frighten her good if ever she got too curious... or hungry.
Waiting for Monica, he explored more of the terrarium. He got rather impressed. It was really done for amphibian species, and with their well-being in mind. It was nice and moist. With plenty of soft mud. Green slime would soon come and be very comfy, Damon was sure. Oh, who needed linen sheet when tall grasses and squishy mud was available? Enjoying his time, Damon started jumping and splashing into the little pond, croaking happily perched on the little rocks. Splashing was funny! And very much pleasant! Why spend a fortune to go to a ritzy spa? Hopping with abandon, croaking to his heart's content, Damon started losing himself into his new instincts and feelings. The excellent moisture. The sweet earth. The delightful pond. The great log to hide under. Why, he just needed some food to feel complete! At this thought, Damon started thinking about fat slugs. Crunchy wriggly wood lice. Large bugs. Tiny ants to gulp easily. Spicy mosquitoes. Spiders that melted under the tongue. Fat juicy flies. All these invertebrate snacks would be great to have right now...
Without realising it, Damon was starting to really think like a toad, his mind becoming less human.
