Understanding she was putting off making a choice, Jennifer huffed in frustration. Turning away from the mirror, she headed for the toilet, considered flushing it, did so anyway, and stepped over to the sink where she proceeded to wash and dry her hands. Exiting the bathroom, she ran a hand down her front, made one last check to make sure she was tucked back, and headed for the living room.
Inside the room, the other girls were talking about their plans for the weekend and whether they ought to incorporate use of the Chronivac in them, whilst on the television a movie played with the volume turned down. Sitting, making sure nothing up her skirt could be seen, feeling self-conscious, worried she might have made a mistake, she paid scant attention to the conversation.
Her mind instead on the Chronivac and what she did, she wondered why things had shifted so greatly when all she'd done was change one thing about herself. Thinking about her new life, how she was now a boy who saw themselves as a girl, who believed they were female, should have been born one, connecting it back to her choice to give herself boy parts, which she still saw as icky, she tried figure why what she saw as a minor change had led to such a ripple effect.
"Especially as I didn't really alter anything else, such as reality," she thought as she mulled it over.
Curious to know more about the Chronivac, her mind drifted through what she did know, and after a bit, she speculated on whether there might be some safety feature in place preventing a person from making changes which could have incompatible and inharmonious outcomes. Toying with the idea she might be onto something, wanting to go explore the Chronivac, Jennifer wondered how best to slip away. Trying to come up with a reason, she was abruptly pulled from her thoughts when Diana commented, "Jennifer?" and looking at her, realising the other were all looking at her, had said something to her, she suddenly grew worried.
The first thing which came to her was she'd been found out. Scared by how they might react to discover she hadn't been born a girl, afraid there was a lump visible were one wasn't supposed to be, or something was poking out, she shifted in a self-conscious manner. As she did this, she said, "Huh?"
"Jeepers," Diana exclaimed, grinning. "You look like the cat who got caught with its paw in the cream, or having eaten the family pet bird."
Others gave a laugh at this, and Jennifer gave a sheepish shrug and replied, "Sorry. My mind was on other things."
"We could tell," Natalie answered. "You're like, a million miles away from the rest of us," and the other adding in their own comments, it was Diana who soon drew the conversation back around to what they'd been talking about by saying, "We were discussing this weekend, and the possibility of using the Chronivac."
Several nods were received at this, and Diana furthered, "We were wondering your thoughts on the matter. Anything you might want to contribute."
Group focus now completely on her, Jennifer felt even more self-conscious. Telling herself, "It's okay. They don't suspect anything. To them, you're another girl, like them," and thinking about what she'd heard coming back after her use of the Chronivac, mulling over what Diana had just said, Jennifer considered the possibilities of what they might do with the computer programme. After a bit, she swallowed, and offered an suggestion of maybe becoming mythical beings, hoping as she did, it hadn’t already been offered.
Author's note: To the author who was complaining about the last chapter, I'm sorry you did not like it, as I did the best with what I had to work with. I had an idea of where to go, as shown in this chapter, and so, started working on what I saw as a two part chapter of Jennifer returning to the group. Instead of complaining, you could have waited or ignored what was posted. Also, I left this at the bottom of the chapter due to finding these at head of the chapter as a disruption to the flow of the narrative. As such, I shan't leave any more notes in the future.
