Driven from his mind, Theodor didn't give the Chronivac programme any thought for the next three weeks. Busy first with weekend plans with his family, he returned to work Monday, and from there, the project he was working on took precedent. If Lümburg wanted the disk and emitter back, he didn't bring the matter up, and it wasn't until after he caught Felicity in his home office, trying to access something on the computer, Theodor gave the software any more consideration.
Project for Datafirm complete, and the promise of even bigger one looming, complete with a potential promise of an even bigger pay-out, Theodor sat in front of the computer he kept at home and considered what it might be as he also tried to work out why his daughter was suddenly so interested in things on the computer. Having no games on it, everything Mr Blythe kept on it was, in some way or another, work related. Looking at the desktop cluttered with icons and folders, he spotted the one for the Chronivac. Wondering if maybe Felicity was accessing it, or trying to, he also speculated why. Looking at the drawer he’d left the emitter and disk in, unsure why Felicity might be interested in the Chronivac, he unlocked the drawer, withdrew the items in question and thinking, "Probably should return these things." But, as Lümburg still hadn't said anything, he decided to take another peek at the software.
Disk inserted, emitter set next to the computer, he double-clicked the icon and opened the Chronivac. As he did this, pulled up several dialogue boxes and opened a handful of other programmes meant to diagnose any complications, as well as permit the use to alter or fix a piece of software. Tapping and typing through data, he backed up and duplicated everything as he tried one thing, saw what the outcome it'd have, then another, all as he attempted to correct several bugs. Seeing how complicated it was, he was left wondering after some time who had designed it, as it seemed to be something way beyond anything current. Joking at one point, "It's probably aliens, or people from the future," he reversed a change he made when it caused a feedback loop, discovered he had to go back several steps, and after a bit of trial and error, managed to correct the potential crash the software might experience if too many changes were initiated at once. Saving the new information, but not over the original, which he kept separate, Theodor leaned back and rubbed his eyes. Having been at it for several hours now, he noted the time was almost nine at night.
Still not ready to call it, he turned his attention to some of the other matters he first discovered, as well as issues he found when attempting to fix the programme. Working slowly, he barely gave Marissa a second glance when she came it and asked him, "You coming to bed?"
With an absent nod, Theodor commented, "Mmmm-hmmm. Just as soon as I finish this."
Seeing her husband wasn't really paying attention, but was instead again hyper-focused on a project, Marissa kissed him goodnight, told him, "Don't work too late," listened as he replied, "Mmmm-hmmm," and exiting the room, she went to check on Felicity and make sure the girl was already in bed.
Absorbed in what he was doing, Theodor didn't even realise his wife had left. Torn between frustration when he was either stumped by how complex the piece of software was, or the way he fixed one thing, and it caused a host of other issues, and wanting to crow with delight when he at last corrected a problem and it didn't shift other things unfavourably, he figured, after some time, he'd done what he could for the evening. Saving the new copy of the programme, he started to close everything, but stopped when he got to the Chronivac. Wanting to know if it'd perform as expected, he considered the best way was to test it. Wondering how, he decided to test it on himself, but was left with the question of, "What should I instruct it?"
Not able to quite bring himself to believe it could do as it claimed, he aimed the remote thing at himself, and had it scan him. Plugging it into the computer, he watched as the data was uploaded to desktop programme. Focusing his attention on it, and discovering in the process Felicity had a profile already on it, Theodor wondered why as he also suspected he was probably correct in what he’d surmised earlier about the girl. Wanting to know why, but unable to come up with a reason, he soon asked himself, "What if I instructed this thing to make me young again. Could I get a better understanding of why Felicity is so obsessed with the Chronivac?" as he toyed with the idea of making himself his daughter's sibling.
