Mostly because the wizard fell down on top of him to the sound of severe blunt force trauma. The unconscious blue robed wizard was kicked off him. Ryan saw Goldie, holding the cash register that had had proven very good at striking wizards in the back of the head.
"Mistress! I'm sorry! I couldn't act sooner! I had to wait until he was completely distracted! I'm so so so sorry mistress! At least I was able to save your child from his hands!" Goldie bowed several times.
As for the Headphones, it was astonished at the Wizard who inhabited this franchise of Spells R Us, the Wizard hadn't been able to tell that Ted had been brainwashed by the headphones (or he'd have never thought Ted deserved to be punished for giving out free head phones), and even more apparently had no blue that the Headphones themselves were sapient, or the Wizard would realized that Ryan had been acting on the headphone's own brainwashing. This wizard might have used the oldest trick in the book to thwart It's host, but it clearly had no idea of the true nature of the store's merchandise... and he wouldn't have ignored Goldie as a nonentity. Honestly, the Wizard in the Headphone's opinion had earned that bang in the back of the head. And parlor trick? PARLOR TRICK?! THE NERVE! IT WAS A CERTIFIED SINGULARITY ARTIFACT DAMMIT!
A scroll appeared floating above the unconscious former Wizard's head.
'Hello Ryan, I am Merlin, yes that Merlin, the original Wizard, and founder, owner, and CEO of the Spells R Us franchise. Seeing as the current Wizard of this franchise, by the taking of your egg as payment, has broken his oath regarding the banned buying and selling of organic sapient creatures, IE, slavery, (Even when a man was turned into a unicorn to meet the ideals of the woman he loved, I still couldn't legally charge for the unicorn (only the bridal that he came with)), his franchisee status is revoked. And so the store is in need of an acting Wizard... or Wizardess in this case... If you wish to accept this management position, grasp the quill, via beak, claws, whatever, and sign, mark, you get the idea. Otherwise you can be teleported to whatever life this Wizard's counterspell had planned for you, but given its master's particular sadistic nature, it likely was not going to be anything pleasant. Oh, and Headphones, yes, those Headphones, you will be working at manager until you pay them off along with the CD your absorbed to ahem, 'enhance' the powers you have 'always had'. Oh, as a signing bonus, I'll grant you back the ability to use human speech. And child support for your egg.'
Ryan didn't even hestiate and scratched out an 'x' on the parchment with a provided floating ink well, only barely scanning the text (just enough to make sure it wasn't a brothel or eternal slavery or brothel eternal slavery contract in disguise). The scrolled up and vanished.
In the blink of an eye, Ryan found herself wearing a bathrobe covered in glued on sparking silver stars, with a night cap on her feathery head... oh, and the robe did nothing to hide her new feathery cleavage, and was split rather high on her hips.
Meanwhile, the ex-Wizard of the franchise floated up in the air... their purest of pure blue robe morphed into a retail apron... while their real body (which Ryan now saw looked absolutely nothing like her human self had), morphed into a humanoid vixen... blue fur covered her body except for her white underbelly, chin, and tail tip, and her black 'gloves and socks.' She floated upright and onto her feet and blinked.
She looked down at herself. "What the FUDGE!" She covered her cover.
"SPELLS R US IS A CLEAN LANGUAGE FRANCHISE!' Flashed the words on a poster hang on the wall.
"No. This is stupid. This is retarded! This is BULL'S EYE. This is not what's supposed to happen! HE'S THE TOY NOT ME!" She stomped her paws.
"Now now Cheryl," said Goldie. "I listen to Mistress, and since you're new to the front staff, that makes me your senior."
"SHUT YOUR TRAP YOU WORTHLESS -BOBBY-PIN-, I'D NEVER LISTEN TO-" Cheryl smiled, and bowed. "Of course Goldie, I'll listen to what you say to be the best retail vixen for Mistress." She blinked. "What the FUDGE was that?!"
Ryan shuddered herself... and... she still had the desire to control and to dominate... but she know knew where those desires had truly come from. She tore off the headphones and glared at them. They shuddered in her claws in fear. She put them on Cheryl's head.
"Shape her into a model employee."
Cheryl's eyes widened, then became pin pricks, she shuddered, waves of musical notes rippled visibly behind here eyes like a cartoon. Cheryl grinned. "YAY! What a great day to sell helpful but dangerous magical items to unsuspecting mortals!" She cheered like she didn't have a care in the world. Ryan took the head phones off. Cheryl blinked. Growled. And TRIED to give Ryan the finger... but instead, she gave her the peace sign. She tried again but gave her the 'V for victory' instead, then the 'okay' gesture.
Cheryl grabbed the cash resister and tried to hit Ryan over the head with it, only to stop inches before she could. No matter how many time she tried. Ryan guessed because Ryan hadn't broken the rules of being a franchisee. Speaking of which...
"Uh, Goldie, is a manual for being a Wizard for this place?"
"Oh right here Mistress," Goldie said pulling out a hard cover tome the size of a phone book. Looked like Ryan had some reading ahead of her.
