"You know what?" the wizard said. "I think I'll keep you. I was going to get rid of you, send you somewhere you'll actually belong. But you, young lady, are too fascinating to let go." Ryan cringed. "Not to mention, there's a tremendous amount of magic in this egg. I can use it for spells and potions. I could even sell it! And you're just going to keep laying ones just like this. I'd be a fool to let you go."
Ryan's mind whirled as the wizard led him into a back room. The wizard waved his hand. A door appeared. The wizard brought Ryan into the room. It was...a backyard chicken coop.
There was real grass on the ground and even some clouds hovering near the tall, sky blue ceiling. Standing in the middle of the room was a human-sized chicken coop.
"Go on in," the wizard instructed. Reluctantly, Ryan walked up the gangway into the coop. The little house consisted of one large room with a human-sized nest in it. Acting on some sort of instinct, Ryan settled down in the nest. It wasn't super soft, so he tugged out some of his feathers and stuffed them into the nest. The wizard poked his head in.
"Good, make yourself comfortable," he said. "I'll check on you regularly, and I'll even let you wander around the shop when it's closed. As long as you don't make a mess."
"Bawk!" Ryan squawked. The wizard grinned.
"That's what I want to hear."
With that, the wizard left. All Ryan could do was make himself comfortable in the nest. Already, he could feel another egg beginning to form in his belly.
After a month, the wizard had warmed up enough to Ryan that he...
