Bruce was introduced to the other guests by Pat's wife Elle. Elle was in her late twenties and was 'Pleased that Sam had finally found a woman to settle down with'. Bruce did as she had been told and chatted with Elle and two other neighbour,s Cindy and Vivienne, young mothers of the three boys running riot in Elle's back yard. Bruce tried to bring the subject around to Sam but the other women were more intent on finding out what they could about 'Jordan'. They all gasped about the ring on Bruce's finger and wanted to know all about the proposal and wedding plans. Bruce had to make things up. All she knew was that Jordan was a work colleague of Sam's and told the story of her own proposal to Janet 40 years ago.
Bruce did find out a little about Sam. Evidently Sam had bought the house two years earlier and was best friends with Pat. She glanced across at Janet who was chatting with Pat and the other guys by the barbeque. They were drinking some home distilled drink that Janet had found in Sam's back yard shed and were laughing very loudly about something. Bruce had to admit that Janet seemed to be getting on well enough with the other guys. All the same, she remained annoyed that Janet had declared her the dedicated driver and had subsequently taken away the glass of champagne that Elle had poured for her. She could not understand why Janet was so insistent that she shouldn't even have a taste, however they were playing a newly affianced couple, so she decided not to argue the point.
Bruce's other discovery earlier that day had been the dog she could recall barking when they arrived last night. Evidently 'Dino' belonged to Sam. It was interesting watching Janet being adored by the dog. Janet had always been afraid of dogs and kept well clear of them but all Dino wanted to do was be at Janet's side. The dog had no idea that Janet was not the real Sam.
Janet was greatly enjoying himself. The 'moonshine' Sam brewed in his shed was quite tasty and very potent. It was great to be one of the guys and chat about sports around the barbeque, as Pat did the cooking. It was also a nice feeling knowing that his fiance was the best looking female at the party. That, combined with the fact that he was the tallest person present, made him feel like the alpha male. He loved it.
The only scare during the gathering was when he noticed Bruce with a glass of champagne in her hand. He had to quickly run over and take it off her. Janet knew that pregnant women should not drink. He didn't want to risk the health of their baby. However Bruce was not yet aware of her pregnancy so Janet had to make up an excuse about her being the dedicated driver.
They stayed at the BBQ until 2pm. That was when the other guests left. Janet told Pat that he would be staying the night at 'Jordan's' house and hoped Pat could continue to take care of that damned dog. He also told Pat to watch out for two twin blondes who were stalkers of 'Jordan'. "They are actually good looking girls but they have been hassling Jordan. If you see them hanging around my house please call the police"
Just as Bruce and Janet left in Jordan's car. Skeesy, Sam and Jordan arrived at Jordan's house. There was no car in the driveway, but being cautious Jordan told Skeesy to park further down the street. They then walked up to the front door and rang the bell. Only when no one answered did Jordan retrieve her hidden key and open up. They had seen no sign of any neighbours.
Once inside it was obvious that they had beaten the imposters to the house. Jordan, aware she had promised to work for Skeesy for a week packed some new suitcases full of clothes and valuables. Sam meanwhile checked the locks and made a list of what was needed to change them. Sam and Skeesy were about to head down to a hardware store to purchase what they needed when Skeesy reported a car had just pulled into the driveway.
