Baby Mentality

added by Anonymous 2 days ago O Mental

Macy blinked awake, the soft weight of a warm blanket around her body and a familiar scent in the air. Her eyes slowly opened, adjusting to the sunlight streaming through the window. She felt... different. So different.

Her small fingers grasped at the fabric of Jess’s shirt, trying to pull herself closer, but instead, she giggled softly and tugged again. She didn’t quite understand what was happening. She had been a girl just yesterday. She was—she was Mason, wasn’t she?

But everything felt so… hazy. Her thoughts, once sharp and clear, now came to her in small flashes, like brief sparks in a dark room. She couldn’t hold onto them. Every time she tried to focus, something pulled her attention away, a bright color, a sound, the feeling of Jess’s soft hand brushing her hair.

“Mama,” she muttered quietly, her words clumsy on her tongue, though she barely recognized the term she had just said.

Jess, sitting next to her, hummed softly as she rocked her gently in her arms. It felt so comforting. So... natural.

Macy’s eyes widened as she looked up at Jess’s face. Jess’s eyes softened, a smile curving at the edges of her lips.

"Hey sweetie," Jess whispered, smoothing a hand over Macy's hair. "You okay?"

Macy nodded but didn’t fully understand why she had to nod. She just knew that the feeling of being held by Jess was... right. It wasn’t like before. Before, there were so many questions, so many thoughts that kept her head spinning. She would’ve felt awkward, like she needed to make sense of everything. But now? Everything just felt simple.

Everything felt good. Her hands moved, reaching for Jess's necklace, her fingers clumsily circling it. It was so shiny. Pretty. The world felt colorful, almost too vibrant at times, and it was enough to make her laugh.

“Pretty,” she said again, still struggling to form the words properly but smiling brightly nonetheless.

Jess giggled. “You like it, huh?”

Macy’s lips curled upward, but her thoughts were scattered, like bits of a puzzle she couldn’t quite fit together. There was something nagging at her, though—a sense of something missing. She thought, for a second, that she remembered a time when she could think better. When she could make plans and decisions. But now? Now, she just wanted to sit here, in Jess’s arms, safe and content. She didn’t want to question anything, didn’t need to.

The confusion was there, like a dull buzz in the back of her mind, but it didn’t feel bad. It wasn’t bad. It was just... different.

It was as if yesterday—when she had been Mason, thinking about what it would be like to live as a girl—had been a dream. A fluke, like Jess had said. She had wanted to experience life as a girl, but now that she was here, it wasn’t hard. It wasn’t difficult. She didn’t need to wonder anymore. She didn’t need to know why things were the way they were.

Macy didn’t even remember feeling angry about it. She didn’t have the sharp, frustrated thoughts that would’ve come from Mason’s mind.

She just wanted to laugh. To giggle. To play.

Her eyes fluttered as she looked around the room, her attention switching from the soft sunlight streaming through the window to the feeling of her little hand in Jess’s. She reached out for a toy near the couch, a small stuffed bear she didn’t recognize, but its soft fur felt good in her hands. The bear squeaked when she squeezed it. Macy giggled again, the sound escaping her without even thinking.

Jess smiled down at her, completely at ease. “That’s my girl.”

But to Macy, the world wasn’t even a question anymore. She had no need for answers. Jess was there, and that was enough. The confusion from yesterday faded into a gentle hum in her chest. She could feel something... deep down, like a flicker of a memory. Something important. Something right. But the more she tried to focus on it, the fuzzier it became.

The thought of being anything but Jess’s baby... it didn’t even cross her mind.

Jess’s voice cut through the haze, her tone light and loving. “You wanna play, sweetie?”

Macy looked up at Jess, her face lighting up as she shook her head with a small giggle, completely ready to dive into whatever Jess wanted her to do next. She didn't need to overthink it.

No, it was better this way. Simpler. Easier. Fun.

And for once, Macy felt... at peace.
