Given how many things had gone wrong, Ty was amazed that when the program showed the estimated completion time countdown, it stated from 17 minutes and 44 seconds. I shouldn't count my chickens before they hatch, he thought, but things are finally looking up!
Not having anything he needed to do while the computer worked, he willed a comfy chair into existence, facing the window, and had a seat. Now he could actually relax and enjoy the view, relieved by the knowledge that in under twenty minutes, he would have Lisa back. He willed a stereo system into existence as well, and played one of his favorite albums, Foreigner 4.
As he gazed out the window, he enjoyed a spectacular view of the stars, undiminished and undistorted by Earth's atmosphere, as had previously only been seen directly by astronauts. Say, he thought, I wonder if I'm qualified as an astronaut now, even though I didn't launch on a rocket? In any case, he was now the first human to venture beyond Earth orbit, and soon, Lisa would be the second.
He noticed that near one edge of the view, he could see some of the exterior of the station, and that the heat radiator fins were glowing red hot. Most of the heat radiation would of course be infrared. If anyone back on earth happened to be looking at Jupiter, they'd be in for a surprise. They'd see a glowing ring around the entire planet. It would be dim in visible light, but if they looked in infrared... While he generally didn't want to call any public attention to the use of his powers, there wasn't any way that anyone could connect a strange at Jupiter to him. At least, not until someone came here and saw the dedication plaque.
After a little more than 15 minutes, a beep from the computer forced his attention away from the mesmerizing view.
