Chloe didn’t know how to react… there was no way that her ring had just multiplied into several articles of jewellery. Out of pure habit, she tried to change the colour of it all. And perfectly, every single piece of jewellery shifted from a deep red into a metallic gold. She was covered in it!
“What the fuck…” she said to herself, “I-I… I want this off. I just want the ring.”
But nothing. She started to freak out a little,
“Off! I want the jewellery off, I wish I was just wearing the ring and none of this other jewellery!”
And like magic, all the other jewellery simply fell off of her, falling loudly to the floor, bouncing in small metallic chimes.
Natalie turned around, spotting all the gold bouncing around the floor, “holy shit… did you find anything else in that treasure chest.”
“I have… no idea.”
“Well at least pick it up, you know how Ross feels about mess.”
“I will, sorry.” Chloe said. She bent down to try and pick up as much of the jewellery as she could. She looked at Natalie again, she’d returned her gaze to the TV. Chloe closed her eyes, and whispered to herself, “I wish all the jewellery is in my hand.”
And like magic, all the various gold jewellery flew into her hands. Every last piece.
Chloe excused herself back into her room, shutting the door behind her.
She dropped all the jewellery onto the bed, and just started at it. This couldn’t be real… she just made this, out of thin air.
“I wish there was twice as much.” She said. And the jewellery all multiplied, creating a hefty pile on her bed, “I wish it doubles again.” The quantity grew again, weighting down her bedsheets. She was in disbelief… but it was working.
“Okay okay… I wish… everything in my room was made of gold!”
And as if by Midas’ touch, from the pile, a gold colour spread all over her room. Taking over her bed, then her floor. Reaching her wardrobe, the gold colour took over everything! Her laptop, her shoes, even her window went from transparent to opaque with a gold colour. But then Chloe felt a little cold… she looked down.
“FUCK!” She screamed, looking as a gold colour spread rapidly up her legs, into her torso. They were stiff, immovable, “UNDO IT! PLEASE NO!” The gold travelled up and up, reaching her chest, spreading to her arms, “I WISH I’M NOT GOLD!” She shouted.
And like that… she felt the gold spreading out of her body, back into the rest of the room. She could move again, but her heart was racing.
“Jesus, Chloe.” Natalie said, trying to open her door, “what the hell are you shouting about?” The door wasn’t budging. Clearly the gold was solid.
“I… I wish my room is back to normal.” She said. Slowly, the gold moved in reverse, everything returning to normal until it all collided back in the huge pile of jewellery on her bed. She walked to the door, opened it, face to face with Natalie’s frizzy hair, “sorry… just got a little overwhelmed with something.” She gave a very forced chuckle, which Natalie saw right through,
“Right… and you were screaming about gold?” Natalie peered past Chloe, catching the huge pile of jewellery on her bed, “h-how did… is that fake?”
“Yes?”
“No way.” Natalie said, walking into Chloe’s room,
“Hey, privacy!” Chloe said, a little embarrassed by how messy her room was, clothes and underwear all over the place.
“How did you get this?”
“I just… it’s mine.” Chloe lied,
“Bullshit. Did you steal it?”
“Of course not!” Chloe defended, her hands on her hips,
“Then how did you get it.”
“I, uhm…” she said, trying to think, “I dunno…”
“Seriously, if you don’t tell me a good excuse then I’m gonna go to the police… that’s a lot of expensive jewellery.”
“I-I-I…” Chloe thought and thought, but nothing came out her mind. Except one thing…
“I wish I told you a really good excuse.”
A wave of understanding washed over Natalie, she let out a deep breath, “Jesus… you scared the shit out of me. I thought you’d robbed a jewellery store or something.”
“Seriously?” Chloe said in shock, amazed that the wish worked yet again, “you’d really believe anything I told you, wouldn’t you.”
“Huh?” Natalie said, looking a little offended, “what’s that supposed to mean?”
“Well, I wish you believed I was your mom.”
“Right…” Natalie said, looking less offended, but a little annoyed, “you can’t just go around telling me what I do and don’t believe.”
“Fine, then who am I?” Chloe asked, a smirk on her face,
“It doesn’t matter, mom! I’m 24 years old, I’m an adult! You can’t keep pretending like you control me.”
“Wow… real mommy issues, I guess.”
“Fuck you.” Natalie said, storming off, slamming the door right behind her.
Chloe had a huge grin of her face. She had the power to do whatever she wanted, and clearly nothing was able to stop her.
