Megan’s laughter rang out as she tapped the final setting, and Jeff—no, Jenny—staggered back, blinking at herself in the mirrored door.
“I—I’m… a girl?” Jenny’s voice cracked with shock. Her hair had grown long and soft around her face, her frame subtly reshaped. She stamped a foot. “Megan! Change me back right now!”
But Megan only waved the Chronivac teasingly above her head. “No way! I just wanted a twin sister to play with… to do girly stuff.” She darted backward, clutching the device like a prized toy.
Jenny lunged for it. “Give it to me!” She snagged at Megan’s hoodie, but the little girl ducked and giggled, weaving around her brother’s shorter, newer stride.
Jenny spun to block Megan’s path. “Then why can’t it be with Jess? Why does it have to be me?”
Megan paused, eyes downcast. “Because… Jess didn’t exist a week ago. You’re my only sibling I grew up with—not her.”
For a moment, Jenny’s anger froze on her face. She stared at Megan, the truth hitting harder than any timeline change. Her heart thumped—not with frustration, but… something softer. Nostalgia? Loss? Something that had nothing to do with the device. Jenny never thought to hard on the fact that Megan was aware of the changes, aware He used to be 17, Aware he used to be a Boy... She was probably also aware that Jess didn't exist so in Her mind... last week a stranger moved in and everyone acted like it was normal, acted like they were Sisters and everyone in the house knew except Her, A secret everyone else in the house knew except Her. Making Her feel lonely...
Megan took a trembling breath. “I’m sorry. I just… I don’t know how to be a sister to Jess I don't even know Her! But I know how to be a little sister to you.”
Jenny’s hand closed around Megan’s shoulder. The Chronivac slipped from Megan’s grasp; it clattered softly onto the floor.
“You want me to be your sister,” Jenny said quietly, crouching to meet Megan’s gaze. “Not your big sister. Just… your sister.”
Megan sniffled and nodded, tears brimming. Jenny wrapped her up in a careful hug—hesitant, as if this new body might shatter at any moment, but real enough to feel Megan’s arms squeeze tight showcasing her new bodies weakness.
When they finally pulled apart, Jenny reached down and picked up the Chronivac. She turned it so Megan could see. “Let’s do this together,” she said. “I’ll help you find a way to have fun with Jess as your sister, too. I’m not changing back—at least, not until yet, not until I decide But If You touch this device and make anymore changes to me ever again I'll disown you as my sister!.”
Megan smiled through her tears and grabbed Jenny’s hand. “Deal.”
Jenny powered down the device. The room was suddenly very still—no humming menus, no glowing glyphs—just two siblings, bound by real history and the promise to face the future together.
Jenny \was still very unsure about this decision
