Greg was a 13 years old boy. Other boys in his age were left home alone when their parents were out for the night. But not with Greg. His parents were so paranoid that something might happen if he was left alone that they always asked Olga, the young adult who lived next door, if she could babysit Greg. Olga did it for the money, but she didn't treat Greg well. She always locked him in his room, and he would hear her having fun.
Another one of those nights was coming up. This time, however, everything would be different. When Greg came home, his mother told him that two packages had arrived for him. At first, he was surprised because he had only ordered one thing, so he went to his room. He looked at both packages. One was his order, but the other only had his name and address on it. It wasn't very big. He opened it carefully. Inside was something that looked like a toy gun with a monitor. There were also a few pieces of paper. He carefully took it out and noticed by its weight that it wasn't a toy. Then he read the pieces of paper. The first was a congratulatory note from a stranger. According to the note, it was a gun that could turn anything into a random, inanimate object. Greg's eyes grew wider as he read. Then he read the other notes, which were instructions. When he had read everything, he couldn't believe it at first. But then, jokingly, he tried it out and aimed it at a bird. After he pulled the trigger, there was a short "puff", and a brick lay on the branch. Greg knew then that it was no joke, and he immediately looked forward to the evening with his babysitter. Before that, however, he took the spare key to his room and hid it. When his parents were gone, and Olga was locking him up as usual and having fun, Greg quietly opened the door.
