Diego and Maria were already seated in their living room, and motioned June and Ty to seat themselves. "Thank you for coming over on short notice."
"You're welcome," said June.
Diego looked to Ty. "I think you've heard that we can't find Lisa. Do you know where she is?"
"No," said Ty. "I've stuck to my word, and haven't seen her nor spoken to her since I last left your house after our talk."
"Thank you," said Diego. "You can understand our concern. Is there any way you can help us find her?"
"I haven't done it before, but I'll try," Ty said. He formed a mental image of a compass that would point to Lisa. He stood, turned around a few times, then headed for the stairs. "I think she's upstairs," Ty said.
"We've looked," said Maria.
June said, "Let's have Ty look, his way," and stood to follow Ty.
They went up the stairs, down the hallway, past Lisa's bedroom door. Ty said, "No, back up. I think she's in her bedroom."
"We've searched her room," Diego said, but they backed up and went in.
"Lisa?" Ty called, "It's Ty," as he slowly turned, checking his mental compass. It led him to her desk. And the only thing out on her desk was her phone. Ty pulled out his own cell phone, and dialed her number. Her phone rang, right there on the desk in front of him, but nothing happened.
"We tried calling her, before we discovered that her phone was right here," Diego said.
"It's not like her to go out without her phone," Maria added.
June looked to Ty. "Is she?"
"I think so, Ty replied, then, to Lisa's parents, "You'd better sit down." Maria and Diego sat on Lisa's bed, puzzled.
Ty said, "She gave me the lock code. I think I remember it." He picked up the phone, and entered a few digits. He held the phone close to his mouth, and whispered something.
June said, "Ty asked for my help before, in a similar situation. Ty and Lisa have experimented with various... transformations."
"Like the kitten in the magic show," asked Maria.
"Yes, like that," June confirmed. "But some transformations that are a bit more... exotic." She turned to Ty. "Shall I explain it, or do you want to?"
"Sure, Mom. Go ahead."
"Ty also gave Lisa the power to redo and undo transformations he's previously made to her," June explained.
"So she could become the kitten any time she wanted?" Maria asked.
"Exactly," said June. "So in this case, she redid a transformation, into a form where she apparently didn't hear your knock at her door, or your calling for her."
"Well? Where is she? What is she?" Diego asked.
"Please don't get upset," June said. "She's perfectly fine, and not in any danger. But at the moment, she exists as a... mobile phone app."
Maria looked stunned, and Diego looked like he was about to have a fit of apoplexy.
Ty said to her cell phone, "Lisa, say hello to Diego," and handed the phone to him.
