Janessa slowly began to speak, her mind whirling as she scrambled to come up with a story the princess would believe. Antyny had never been very interested in her aside from having sex, and Janessa was quickly realizing just how lucky she had been that her beauty and the chaos caused by the war had kept anyone from being suspicious.
As the princess listened with interest, Janessa began to tell a story about growing up in an heavily forested, isolated region of the kingdom. She had visited it before on hunting trips, and with the constant fighting going on the people living there had mostly fled the country, seeking refuge in Karagot’s neighbors. She reasoned no one would know much about the area, which had no great wealth or importance besides its location, to challenge her.
According to her tale, her parents were very distant relatives of the royal family, which explained the beautiful red color of her hair. They had passed away in one of the bouts of plague which occasionally washed over the country three years ago, when Janessa had been 18. Without any other options she’d made her way to Karagot’s capitol, where she’d struggled to find work.
Then one spring morning the prince had seen her as she’d made her way down the road towards the small house where she was staying. He’d immediately halted his guards, and asked about her. An invitation to visit the palace soon followed. Janessa was not a noble lady, so she couldn’t hope to marry the crown prince, but he was attractive, and promised she wouldn’t have to worry about anything if she came to join his harem.
The princess looked sympathetic. “I’m sorry you had to go through that.” She said. “And now, with the war….” She trailed off, and Janessa tried to reassure her, giving a soft smile.
“Hopefully it will be over soon.” She said. With the information she and Greta were gaining, soon the rebels would be defeated. The skepticism towards Antyny from the other nobles gave Janessa hope that the war was turning in the royalists’ favor.
Janessa continued to talk with the princess, hardly aware of Antyny’s conversation in the front of the room. The princess was kind and friendly, and Janessa listened with interest as she talked about life in her own kingdom.
Servants came into the room to offer wine to Antyny’s guests, and Janessa sipped from her glass as she continued to talk with the princess. Only a short time ago it had been Jasper talking with Anya near the harem chambers she had come to know so well, and now Janessa was a beautiful, busty redhead quietly talking with a woman her parents had considered becoming her wife about how handsome she found men.
Antyny managed to convince some of the guests, including the princess, to stay in Karagot for a few days to negotiate deals on trade and supplying more arms for his troops. As the guests left the chamber, he wrapped an arm around Janessa’s waist and led her down a quiet hallway back towards the royal suite.
“You did very well, Janessa.” He said, kissing the pretty redhead as they came to a halt. “A queen’s job is to support her husband in running the country, and you made friends with the princess despite having little status. I will bring you along to more of these meetings soon.” He promised.
They soon entered the hallway that led to the Royal Suite. Janessa giggled and let out an excited squeal as Antyny grabbed her from behind and picked her up, carrying her over to the bed.
