Over the next few days, Antyny held several more events to try and win the support of the nobles he was hosting. Janessa, clad in a beautiful long dark blue dress, clung to his arm as he gave them a tour around much of the castle. Princess Lilia gave her sympathetic glances, while many of the male noblemen’s gazes seemed fixated on her chest, to the annoyance of their wives.
Each day, as Antyny made speeches to the rulers, Janessa quietly talked with the wives—and one husband—in the back of whatever chamber they were sitting in. Slowly but surely some of the other women began warming up to her—or, at least, Janessa thought, they were no longer glaring at her constantly.
Quietly she began to provide the spouses with information that might discourage them from entering the war. Antyny had mentioned the mines which produced gold and silver; Janessa “admitted” most were either damaged or the workers had run away, and there would be no gold or silver for some time to come. Antyny spoke of military progress; Janessa quietly said the rebels were struggling with their soldiers becoming bandits plaguing some of the border towns.
Some of the spouses had seemed confused when Janessa had begun giving them that information, but as the days had gone on they had seemed first thoughtful, and then some had even seemed appreciative of her actions. One noblewoman had even pulled her aside and quietly apologized for treating her so poorly. No kingdom wanted to be fooled into entering a war, especially one as evenly matched as the war in Karagot.
Antyny had been bringing Janessa back to the Royal Suite each night while his guests were present, as if she was truly his wife. Janessa wondered if he was just trying to leave a good impression on the other royals. Cradled in his arms, the idea that she had ever been a man somehow seemed strange and distant. The amulet’s power had made her feel comfortable and normal as a woman, and as the days passed by that feeling only grew.
Greta managed to slip out of the quarters again at night and continued to pass information onto Janessa to help her make her case. Although Anya was only a soft voice from the distance, their meetings made Janessa feel safe. She knew she could count on Anya to help her and Greta if Antyny ever found out about what she was really doing.
After a few more days, most of the diplomats had departed. None had offered Antyny the troops he had wanted. He’d gained some extra trade, but less than he’d hoped for. That night in the suite Janessa was on her knees, sucking Antyny’s cock as he stared forwards, dejected.
The next day Janessa was returned to the harem quarters, where many of the other women eagerly asked questions about what was going on outside. Janessa gave a careful account of what had happened over the previous few days before collapsing back into one of the beds with a book.
