"You have expertise in defending buildings," Anya said. Gareth nodded. That was his main role as Head of the Prince's Guard. "Now that we have the Crown...Princess here, we need to make fortify our base further for her protection."
"Gladly, I will help," Gareth said. He was relieved to have something to do that wasn't having sex with rebels.
"Excellent. I was thinking you could start-" Whatever Anya was going to say was cut off by Janessa entering the room. Gareth's breath caught in his throat. The princess had found a simple blue gown that she made elegant with her regal bearing, though it was the type that a regular commoner maid would wear. Her red hair hung loose in gentle waves. She was stunning.
And she made her way to Gareth, and sat on his lap.
"Good morning, my love," she whispered. She turned Gareth's face and kissed him. Gareth couldn't help but reciprocate. When she pulled away, Anya had a carefully neutral look on her face.
"You should get something to eat," Gareth said gently. Janessa sighed. She hugged him tightly.
"I do not want to leave you," she said softly. Anya's expression changed to pity. Gareth understood. Janessa had been through some serious trauma, even with her new memories. It was difficult to watch.
"I have tasks to do to help you get your kingdom back," Gareth said. "I am sure Anya or someone else can give you some tasks of your own. Keep you busy."
"Okay," Janessa said. She kissed his cheek. "At lunch, we will touch base."
"Yes," Gareth agreed. On an impulse, he kissed her forehead. She smiled and got up, then left.
"She loves you," Anya said quietly.
"She thinks she loves me," Gareth corrected. "I would like to dissuade her of the notion before I return her feelings." Anya chuckled.
"All right, get to work. I will handle Janessa." Gareth nodded. He got up to go fortify the building, wondering what sort of task Anya would give the princess.
