Janessa had never realized quite how much work went into preparing for a wedding back when she had been a guy. Despite being the crown prince, marriage hadn’t been something Jasper had thought about much. His parents had considered some matches—including to Lilia, an idea that felt almost unreal to Janessa now—but they’d never come close to agreeing to a match.
Even with Lilia, Greta, and a number of other women helping Janessa still felt overwhelmed with all the things that had to be prepared for the wedding. They had to find a location, make sure the proper number of invitations were sent out, arrange for music, food and drinks for the guests, prepare the location with the proper decorations…..it was exhausting!
Lilia had volunteered to have royal servants work at the wedding before taking Janessa into town to find a wedding dress. The redhead tried on what felt like dozens of absolutely beautiful dresses, staring into the huge mirror placed along one wall as the shop attendants and her friends offered their opinions. Part of her still couldn’t believe she was getting married—as the bride!—but staring at her reflection, her red hair practically shining in the sunlight coming in through the store’s windows…..
A part of her wondered if she’d been meant to be like this all along.
Several days went by, and Sven mentioned to his fiancée that he had talked to the king about preparing Northfjord for conflict. The country’s large size meant gathering soldiers was not a fast process, but several columns of them were being assembled in different cities to prepare for travel to Silverfall, and in a few weeks they would be assembled at the royal barracks around the capitol, joining the royal family’s personal guardsmen. The docks seemed to suddenly almost be overcrowded with ships.
Anya seemed excited to hear the news when they reported it back to her late that night, and urged Janessa to continue with the plan. She reassured the former prince that the royalists were still holding their ground in Karagot, and for now, at least, there was no reason to rush.
Janessa wondered if Greta would also wind up getting married if they stayed here long enough. The former guard was certainly beautiful, shorter than Janessa—and even Lilia—but almost as busty as the redhead. Her long, dark hair and slender frame had caught the eye of many men both in the harem quarters and now here in Northfjord.
Greta seemed to enjoy her new role, Janessa thought. She wondered if part of Greta, too, saw being a beautiful woman and sleeping with men as almost…normal.
Sven and Janessa continued going out on trips into Silverfall and the countryside, and even though Janessa often thought the weather was too cold for her liking, the land around her was absolutely beautiful…and she loved spending time with Sven.
