Mark wished indeed, but not very wisely. Or rather, he did not think about his wording. He had a clear idea of how to get out of his problem, with his friends, and to get something extra out of it. What he did not expect was that the genie could be mischievous. Genies tend to be, and this one was no exception.
"I wish all five of us were heroes, so popular that we will have no problems with justice, community service and with no trial," he said with a very wide smile.
The four other boys cheered, while the lawyer simply looked baffled.
"Sure thing," she sang. "Here you are!"
And with a wave of her hand, she made the five frat boys disappear.
"Where... Where did they go...?" stammered the lawyer.
"To a place where they can be heroes, and where the consequences of their vile action cannot reach them. In the realm where they now are, they are considered heroes indeed. At least for a while. But they never did give any precisions."
The genie left to watch what she had started, with a lawyer that would only have to say that the five young men had simply vanished, probably ran away to avoid the judiciary consequences of their stupid action.
Meanwhile, the five college boys found themselves in suits of armor, upon horses in armor too, in front of the entrance of a huge cave. They sensed they were now fit, and very athletic. They were all knights, heroes indeed! And though it was not exactly what they had expected, they were happy to fight a monster and return for riches and a banquet. They all imagined a dragon with a massive amount of gold. So they rushed in, imagining themselves in a video game.
But it was not a dragon they faced, but a giant spider. Not only did its legs so thick in its skin that swords and lances could not break it, but it killed their horses with its sharp legs. Panicked, they tried to flee but the spider used its sticky webbing to glued them to the ground. One by one, the monster picked them up, removed their armour and once they were only in a linen loincloth, it wrapped them deftly in silk, twirling them expertly. Each former frat boy was left with their heads sticking out, and with webbing covering their mouths - and cries. Placed gently upon more webs on the ground, the spider growled as it set the last knight down.
"Oh, silence," it said. "It was YOU who came to attack me. I could simply kill you. But I rather sell you. Warlocks love to transform you knights into babies or animals to then sell or keep. They'll give me sheep, oxen and tasty livestock for you. Thank you for the five meals, in fact."
It then went to eat the horses. The five knights stared at each other in complete terror - and furiously at Mark and his stupid wish. Would he even be able to make his second wish in two weeks? Their career as heroes had been short-lived. What awaited them next.
