Shortly thereafter, Ty and June heard Mark's voice from the computer speakers again. "I'm ready. What do I do?"
"I don't know exactly," admitted Ty, "but I think you can use all of your CAD capabilities just by thinking about them. I expect that you'll want to open one of your files, and that should now be very easy for you. I expect that soon, being a CAD program will seem completely natural to you."
On the monitor, the MarkCAD window suddenly showed an architectural drawing. "You're right, this is easy," Mark said. Ty and June saw the drawing zoom in, and then new lines and symbols started appearing at a rapid rate. "Oh, this is amazing," he said. His womdow scrolled, and a copynof one part of the drawing suddenly appeared in another part. Very rapid changes to the drawing ensued.
June noticed that occasionally the changes paused for a second or two, and asked about it.
"I can make changes to my document almost instantly," Mark said. "Much more quickly than with the keyboard and mouse. And in this form, apparently I even can think faster than normal. But sometimes I do still have to give more thought to what I'm about to do, so those must be the pauses that you see."
Mark continued working on his drawing, as June and Ty started in amazement. After only a few minutes, Mark said, "I'm done with that drawing. Now I'll do the second." His window briefly went back to an empty state, before showing a different drawing, and immediately rapid changes started occurring again. This drawing had apparently already been near completion, as the changes stopped, and Mark said, "I'm done. Oh, I'll print the drawings. The printer immediately hummed to life, while the window contents changed back to the first drawing, then went empty again. "I think that's enough for tonight. How do I get out of here?"
"First you need to unmerge yourself from the CAD program," Ty said. "I've given you the ability to do that on your own. Just think about doing it. You'll probably feel disoriented again, as your merged program will close, and then your unmerged program will open."
"Geronimo!" Mark said. His MarkCAD window disappeared, and was soon replaced by a "Mark" window, once more showing his avatar. "You're right, that was disorienting, but less so. And I feel different, but not bad. Can you make me human again?"
Ty said, "I've given you that ability, too. Just imagine it."
The Mark window disappeared, and living, breathing, human Mark appeared again in the room with them. "That was a blast!" Mark said. "That is so much better than doing it the normal way. Now I understand why you like being an app so much."
June asked, "Did doing things as a program give you... pleasure?"
"Yes," Mark said. "I made an effort to hide that, but it was quite intense."
"So are you feeling horny now?" June asked, embarassing Ty.
"Yes, very much so," Mark said. "Ty, if you'll please excuse us..."
Ty wanted to talk a bit more with Mark about his new abilities, but realized that it could wait. He was hoing to leave, when he was startled to hear June say, "Not yet, Mark. I want Ty to do one more thing."
