It was a typical summer weekend; the beach was only hours away from being full of tourists who had come to the famous Mermaid beach for vacation but locals as well. Normally the locals would try to stay away from the beach on summer weekends because of how crowded it would be, however the local mermaid festival was going on which pulled them to the waterfront.
The mermaid festival had everything one would expect for any summer festival; some carnival games and rides located in the large waterside park. There was going to be some live music groups playing on different nights with fireworks on the last night.
Since the theme of the festival was mermaid, it was without question a time for people to dress like mermaids or merman. Some of the carnival games where rethemed to that same went for food. Some prizes were given out for best mermaid and merman costume and there was even a race one day to see who was fastest in mono fins.
Overall, it was a great time for locals and the tourists as well. They could spend the day in the water playing or at the fair and at night the live music.
That was until this year.
This was the year that the mermaid virus would forever change the world and it would start here at the mermaid festival.
