Monica prepared herself as she looked at the necklace which was the last piece she had to put on.
The necklace had a large diamond a “moon” stone her soon to be husband had called it surrounded by smaller diamonds and other rare stones. It was a family heirloom given to each women who joined the family to wear on their wedding day.
Truth be told, she didn’t like it all that much. It was too over the top and flashy for her taste, she would have rather worn a simple necklace, but this was a family tradition going back 8 generations on her soon to be husband’s family. It was the one thing that Luke had demanded happened at their wedding and her mother-in-law and everyone else had agreed with it the demand.
They had given her a free hand with everything else so wearing a necklace she didn’t hate but wasn’t her style but was family tradition was something she would do.
So she put it on and gathered her things and walked out the door where her father and brides maids would be waiting.
“You look breathtaking darling.” Said her father with a huge smile as everyone else gave her praise as she waited to walk down the aisle to become Mrs. Smith.
“You are wearing the necklace.” Said her soon to be sister-in-law Jennifer as she readied to go do the isle as a bridesmaid.
“It is a beautiful piece.” Said Monica with a smile as the music started.
“Here we go.” Said Monica’s father as they entered the church for the ceremony.
It was a beautiful ceremony as Monica and her now husband Lucas danced the night away and had the best time of their lives. She did get praise from everyone on Lucas side of the family about the necklace which was strange but most of them where from women who had married into the family recalling wearing it at their weddings.
Finally, it was time to leave as they got into limo driven by one of Lucas’s cousins and headed off into the night.
“I love you.” said Lucas as the two of them sat in the back enjoying sitting down for a change after hours of being on their feet.
“No, I love you.” Added Monica as she kissed him.
She didn’t even notice that the limo took a wrong turn heading down into the national park they were near to and not toward the highway and the hotel by the airport where they would fly out of the next morning.
The driver opened the sunroof which confused Monica until she looked up into the crisp fall night and saw a full moon. Her heart skipped a beat as she suddenly felt hot.
It was at that moment that the limo stopped, and Lucas got out. Monica paused for a moment before stepping out. To her confusion it was just an empty field. Then she saw multiple figures in the woods surrounding the clearing, to her amazement they where all members of Lucas’s family.
“Sorry my love, the human wedding ceremony is over it is time for our true ceremony.” Said Lucas as he pulled Monica toward the clearing the stone at the center of the necklace burning hot as she felt her eyes darting toward the figures in the woods but mostly up to the full moon.
“It’s time to tell you the truth…” started Lucas “That necklace is special not because every women in our family has worn it but because it will aid you in your transformation.”
“My what?” asked Monica
