On the way to the garage, Lisa transformed her body back to normal, since they'd have the garage door open, and might step outside.
They saw June in the living room, and asked her to join them. The four of them entered the garage, and June's car was parked in it, but Mark wasn't home yet, so one space was empty. Ty said, "I really should be wearing a tux and top hat for this, and have a magic wand." Suddenly he was, and did. He waved the wand, and Dustin's new car appeared, and two key fobs appeared in Ty's hand.
Lisa and June said, "Oooh!"
Dustin stood there, mouth hanging open in disbelief.
"You'd better close your mouth, before you start collecting flies," Ty said.
"Is this really mine?" Dustin asked.
"It certainly is," said Ty, and handed him the key fobs. "But it still needs to be registered and insured, so please don't drive it anywhere yet. For now, just back it out of the garage, and park it on the street."
June pressed the button to raise the garage door. Dustin pressed the unlock button on a fob, and the car chirped. He got in, and started it up. He slowly and carefully backed it out of the garage, and parked it in front of the house. He turned off the ignition, got out, and pressed the lock button on one of the key fobs. The car chirped again.
Dustin ran back to Ty, and grabbed and hugged him. "Thank you!" he said. "Thank you, and I'm sorry that you had to go through such an ordeal to do it!"
"You're very welcome, Dustin." Ty said.
Then Dustin hugged June. "And thank you and Dad for agreeing to this, and offering to register and insure it!"
"You're welcome," June said. "I'm sorry that you can't really drive it yet, but Mark and I will try to get the registration and insurance taken care of as quickly as possible. But what's this about an ordeal?"
Dustin looked down. "Um, I shouldn't have said that."
Ty said, "It's OK, Dustin. It's not a secret from our parents. I'll explain it." June closed the garage door, Ty changed his clothing back to normal, and they went into the house and sat at the kitchen table.
Ty explained what had happened, with some comments from Lisa and Dustin.
June was shocked and horrified. "Ty, that's terrible! Please don't do that again!"
Lisa nodded, and said, "That's what Dustin and I said too, right before he went out again to the DMV."
"After what happened to him getting the VIN, I didn't want him to continue," said Dustin. "I need a brother more than I need a car. I mean, I'm very grateful to have the car now, but after what happened when he got the VIN, I didn't think it was worth the risk."
"I should say not," June said. "Ty, why didn't you listen to them?"
Ty said, "I learned from the VIN experience, and I was pretty sure that I could keep anything like that from happening again. And I knew that Lisa could take the SSD back to Jupiter and reassemble another me, if necessary. But because she and Dustin were so concerned, I duplicated myself beforehand, and only sent one me to the DMV. And nothing bad happened this time. I came back, and merged together again."
"I think you've been too careless," June said. "I wish you wouldn't do things like that."
"Thank you, June," Lisa said. "That's what we've been trying to tell him, too."
Ty looked down. "Well, I'm sorry if I've let you all down."
"No, Ty," June said. She reached out a hand, and pushed his chin up, so that he was looking straight at her. "That's not what this is about. We're concerned. We all love you, and we don't want bad things to happen to you, for any reason. I understand that you were able to fix the problem by having Lisa and Dustin use the supercomputer to put you back together, and make another copy of you, and that you were more careful the second time, and made a duplicate up front. But one of you suffered and died in the process. I don't want _any_ you to be hurt, or to have to make a sacrifice like that." Lisa nodded in agreement.
"OK, mom," he said. "I'll try to be more careful. I already promised Lisa that I'd discuss things more before doing them."
"Thank you, Ty," June said, and kissed him on the forehead. "Now, Mark should be getting home soon, so let's get ready to go to Lisa's house for dinner." They went back into the house, June and Dustin sat in the living room, and Lisa and Ty went to their bedrooms, Lisa changing back to her hybrid aquarium form on the way.
