Her body gave an uncontrollable lurch forward as her stomach twinged with pain. As she held her arms tight against it, Mary worried that her choice of vials was a bad idea. She was already a female human; what if the vial was trying to transform her anyway? What was happening?
She didn't have to wait long to find out. After a few seconds of excruciating pain, the feeling subsided into a relieved warmth. It spread over her entire body and Mary's arms relaxed around her stomach. She moved to stand up straight again, but the back of her head hit something hard. As she rubbed the bruise, she turned her upper body around and looked up just in time to slam her face right into the ceiling.
The impact knocked her onto her bottom, and one of her legs toppled a nearby chair. She shook her head, trying to regain her senses, and when the stars left her eyes she let out a gasp.
The ceiling was closer than it should have been. It seemed like the entire room had shrunk...or she had just grown twice her size!
"Good thing I haven't put clothes on yet," Mary said in a louder voice, though its pitch still sounded much the same, if not a tad deeper. She had been so excited about her part-cow form she neglected to get dressed. She looked around her, still sitting on the carpet. There was no way she could stand up now. Even simply hunching over looked like it would be a challenge. She eyeballed a nearby doorway and guessed she could still make it through to other rooms, even if it meant crawling rather than walking.
But she shook her head slightly, knowing there was no practical way to deal with her size. She needed to find a vial that would reverse this change, or else be forced to find a job that involved reaching up to very high places.
