It took about half a day for Nathan,Miss Peabody anfd John to realize they were not going to be swept away by the predatory instincts of an wasp.Though the other wirrn had already told them that,they had huddled together in a clean room with pillows,music and toys ,waiting for their evil wirrn thoughts to sweep away their human personalities.
The instincts were there,but they were more like a database you can retrieve stuff from instantaneously.John knew that his poisonous stinger which could easily kill one of his human friends,but he realized he still regarded them as his friends.He felt no inclination to do them harm.
They found their new wirrn urge to serve the swarm was not a thing of mindless obedience.Nathan discovered that he noticed the bristles on his legs much more readily now than the hairs on the skin of human wirrn who had escorted him to the room after his birth.He already suspected that his slightly altered mind would digest information from American Beekeeper than Popular Sports magazine.Though his mind hadn't changed that much,the stimuli he took notice of would alter his behaviour.Serving the swarm would be voluntary.
About 4 hours before the next stoke of midnight the old geezer walked back into the room.He had reverted to his human form during the last change window of opportunity,and he wanted to give the new wirrns some explanations.he laid out for them the origins of the species and explained that he was one of the originalscientists who had volunteered to become male wirrns.He was younger and stronger than he looked.
He explained to the 3 of them that birthing into a wirrn was easier(if more painful) than accessing a wirrns magical powers of transformation.When midnight came,they would have only one to two seconds to wish they were in their old human forms.If they waited one second more to make that wish,they'd have to wait another 24 hours for the next window.
He then asked John and Nathan if they considered their parents normal humans,Wouldn't normal humans have kids rather than adopt them.
For once John figured it out first."Mom,Dad are WIRRN????"
That they were,and they were part of the second generation of wirrn queens.Before their birth,they had been Becky's brother and his girlfriend.After the change,having children was no longer possible.Rather then finding new mates,they had chosen adoption as the route to procreate.They had lived a normal human life,and planned for the day their adopted sons would become wirrn.
For the last 14 years,John and Nathans future had been guided towards this day.
That left Miss Peabody.What was she doing here?The old geezer took her aside.He would explain afterwards.
The 3 wirrns were sent to separate rooms and rereminded of the importance of the midnight hour.
The clock struck 12 and they made their wish.It was a bit of a downer after their spectacular births into wirrn.They silently morphed back into human forms almost instantaneously.They dressed and returned to the meeting room.
John and Nathans parents were there.The two boys held back,realizing what their parents really were.Then they realized that for 14 years their parents had acted pretty well like any other person they'd known.At that point they realized the wirrn were not bug eyed alien monsters.They were just eccentric perhaps,but they laughed and cried like everyone else.
They slowly walked up to their parents and hugged.After the little small talk,they were escorted out of the complex and back into the outside world.
The old geeze took Miss Peabodys hand and led her to his office."We had no intention of turning you into one of us,but it seems 5 years ago you sent in a job application to a front corporation for a secret govt agency.It seems they have accepted you and wanted to bless you with the special abilities the wirrn possess.Congratulations Miss Peabody,you our now a shapeshifting secret govt agent.I,m told your contact will be here in 8 hours to escort you to your first case.It appears that the wirrn are not the only aliens on this planet!"
