You've got to do something, however his spells just seem more powerful than your's. Anything you do he can do better.
"Shape!" You shout trying to transform him again.
"Shift!" The mandragon yells pointing at you. The two spells meet halfway between and dissolve.
"Face it." The man walked up to you. "You can't win. You could have taken the easy way out, but now you're going to...."
"FIRE!" Suddenly an orange ball flew into the mandragon and exploded.
"Arrg!" He screamed in agony. However, his half-dragon form allowed him to live through the blast.
"I did it? Wait, that wasn't my spell." You look around and find that someone has indeed shown up to the parking lot to witness the fight.
Standing at the entrance to the parking lot, a girl, wearing a pair of blue jeans, and black tank top point at the dragonman. Her brown hair is tied back in a ponytail, probaly to keep her hair out of her eyes. She looks down at something in her hand, which appears to be a golden book.
The Book of Arcane?
She shouts "Lightning" as a bolt of lightning jumps from her fingertips and strikes the dragonman. She's killing him.
"Wow." You make a mental note, of when getting the Book of Arcane to try some of the spells she's using.
As for the dragonman, he's obviously hurt by the spells, and seems to have completely forgotten about you for now.
"Take this you bitch! Lesser Shift!" He point at her, and you try to shout a warning to the girl before she is hit.
She makes no move with her hands to deflect the spell, but instead just shouts "counter spell" at the top of her lungs. You close your eyes not able to watch what happens, then after you hear the poof of smoke, you open to see what remains.
She's completely human. Did the spell not work? You turn back to look at the dragonman, and instead, you just see small bug... No wait, a fairy. The man was somehow turned into a fairy.
She somehow sent his own spell back at him.
You decide to contemplate this later, as now you have a chance to strike the the man and finish it. After all, he's a lot smaller and prone to being squished now.
You quickly leap at him, and at the same time here the word 'lightning' ring in your hears. As you land and squash the fairy, thus ending his life, you swear you hear someone call you an idiot. Then pain leaps through your entire body, and you black out.
When you come to, you groan and look around. You still appear to be half cat, half human, and the man is still dead. You look around for the girl, and see her not standing far away, holding both a gold and silver book.
She has the Book of Myth, and the Book of Arcane now. You quickly look around for your own books, and find both of them sitting right next to you.
"You really are a fool." The woman speaks up. "You could have gotten yourself killed."
"Wait!" You quickly get up and climb to your feet and run over to her. "Those books you have, I need you to give them to me?"
"You expect me to give you something like this without even knowing who you are?"
You sigh, and explain to her about your dream, Saphira, and how you obtained the first two books.
"I see then. However, I will not give you the books."
"What!?"
"You're obviously an idiot, and it's just bad luck the fate of her world depends on you. You just nearly lost that battle, despite the fact you could have easily beat. Did you ever think about turning him into a worm so he wouldn't be able to get back to the book? If I give you these books, you'll just end up losing when no one is around to save you."
She turns and begins to walk away.
"You're going to leave just like that!?" You shout.
"You could be thankful to me for saving your life. But I guess you'd prefer to be a hassle to me."
"At least tell me your name before you go."
"My name.... I'm Ruby. However, I doubt you'll need it, as we probaly won't see each other again."
With that she walks off.
"What a weird lady. First she goes out of her way to save my life, then insults me and runs off.... Weird."
At that moment, it occurs to you, though the current threat has passed, you're still a half cat, standing in the middle of the parking lot. You quickly cast the spell to change yourself back to a human, then run back to your clothing and quickly dress. This naked thing is starting to get old. Hopefully one of the books will eventually let you transform your clothes with you.
You look up at the sky, and realize it's almost dark. There's no point in returning to work now, you'd be out in a few minutes. You might as well and head home.
