"Let's split up. You go upstairs, I go down into the basement." Tiff shrugged.
Katie was a bit partial on the thought of breaking up, but was relieved that she was not going into the basement. Apparently that was where the owner died.
"Sounds fine to me Tiff!" Katie replies. "Lets meet back here in about an hour."
Tiff nodded and started down the stairs. Even from the backside, Katie could see Tiff’s massive jugs bounce with each step. Katie shakes her head. “Don’t let her get to you, Katie. So what if I can’t measure up to her.” Katie watched her head disappear down the dark path before starting up the creaky stairs. “Although I really wish that I could.“ She looked down and pressed her hands against her flat bosom and sighed. She continued. At the top she could see that she was in his library and study.
“Ooh!” Katie practically squeaked out as she spotted the books. In the corner was his desk. Even a candle in the corner. And a silver box sat next to it. No sooner did Katie walk into the room, but the candle lit. She jumped in response.
“How?” Katie suddenly racked her brain trying to think of a logical reason. But soon faded away as she started to eye the silver box shimmering in the candlelight. She stepped up to it slowly. Almost frightened by what could be in it.
“Katie! You really are a wuss!” Her head screamed. She gulped and stretched her hands out. Her hands creating a flickery shadow from the candle. She could feel the heat of the flame as she grasped the small silver box. The light shimmers over a engraving on the lid.
“Amulette des désirs” Katie read. “That isn’t English. French?”
Katie lifts the lid. A red light shines. Visible on her hands. Inside is a crimson stone.
“Amulette? It is a amulet!” Katie thinks back to French class. “Des désirs. Of desires.”
Katie lifts the stone from the silver box. “So this thing is called the Amulet of Desires?”
Her heart races as the thought of the amulet being able to grant wishes washes over her head. She looked down at the papers of the desk. Most gibberish that she cannot read, but one note caught her eye.
“It appears that the stone turns black after being used becoming useless. After a amount of time and/or giving it to another will fill it full of it’s magic once again.”
Katie’s heart almost jumped out of her chest. She looked down at the crimson stone in her hand and pressed her other hand into it. She breath became ragged. “I… I wish that…”
“KATIE!!!” Tiff noticeable voice called up the stairs. “WHERE ARE YOU!?”
Katie turned and ran down the stairs with the amulet in hand.
“Where were you Katie? I was waiting for you.”
Katie looked at her watch and was shocked to find that an hour already passed.
“I didn’t find anything worth keeping for our report. How about you?” Tiff asked.
