"From this day on," Kat declared, "at least three times a week, you're going to change into a donkey, dear brother..."
"What???!!" Dan couldn't believe his ears.
"For an hour or two at a time, and then you turn back, like a werewolf would." Slowly, a smile spread across her face. "But the real joy of this spell -- or maybe it's a curse? Probably it is -- is that the change will occur when you least expect it, and at the most embarrassing moment possible."
"Oh yeah? And you think I believe any of this? Get real, Kat!"
Giving Kat a ferocious glare, Dan turned on his heel and marched down the path towards the street. His sister's laughter followed him, mocking his petulance.
"Just you wait and see, Dan," she called after him. "Pretty soon you're going to make a real ass of yourself!"
"Get stuffed!" Dan shouted back, and turned left on the street, heading back to school and the nearby shopping mall.
"Sisters! Who needs 'em?!!" he muttered as he stomped down the street.
Halfway to the mall he ran into two lads he knew, Tom and Bobby, who were going to kick a ball around in the park. Realizing he had no money for the shops, Dan decided to join them.
