Amy's body started to itch all over. Her skin felt like she was being poked with thousands of needles. Walking barefoot on the concrete only added to the pain in her feet, and Amy called for Lina to stop. She scratched her arms, trying to relieve the prickling, and accidentally cut herself. Fortunately it didn't break the skin, but she knew that even those light scratches couldn't have come from normal fingernails. She looked at her fingers and saw the nails had become sharper and longer, and something was happening to her skin. Meanwhile, Lina looked on in shock as her friend, now four feet shorter than her, began to change in ways she never would have believed.
