Wolf Coven - Epiphany

added by Forefox 16 years ago O

Two-fifty in the Morning, September 26. Toward Robert’s Forest.

Shortly after departing, the three women started to converse.
“Wendy,” Lisa spoke as she was driving, “you recognized Vix while we were in the elevator. Care to explain anything you know about our playmate?”

Wendy voiced her troubling thoughts, “I’ve seen her before, but it must have been awhile ago. It has to have been during ROTC training, but she couldn’t have been a student or instructor. Other than that, I don’t know.”

“You spoke about someone named Blackhorn. Who is he?” Debra inquired.

“He’s the head leader of operations, a sort of hands-off person that oversees the field agents. He’s a good individual, but I don’t know why he wants Vix away from us.” Wendy pauses for a moment then picks up her cell phone and dials. “Which is why I’m going to ask right now.”

She set the phone on speaker, so everyone else could hear their conversation. It involved all of them and they all have the same question she did. Who is Vix?

“Blackhorn.” The phone blared.

“This is Agent Patel.”

“Oh thank god you’re still alive Wendy. Is everything okay there?”

“I’m fine,” Wendy replied.

“Is Special Agent Vix there?” he asked worriedly.

“She left not to long ago. Why?”

“She’s dangerous. You don’t know what you’re getting yourself into. Stay away from her,” he demanded.

“Why is Vix so dangerous? What do you know about her?”

Blackhorn went over the facts. “Vix was sent in during the same time Dan started his surveillance. She was never to be active unless something went wrong. Wendy, she was there to kill any lycanthropes deemed hostile to the investigation.” All three women looked at each other in horror. “However, she was ordered to perform an investigation on Dan, but she still has free range on anyone she comes into contact with.”

“Why can’t you send her away?”

“Vix is from a separate division. I’ve relayed a request but it’s been denied. I don’t have power over her.”

“What else do you know?” Wendy wasn’t sure about Vix anymore.

There was a sound of printing papers in the background. “I pulled some strings to get the results of her operational records. From her reputation, in every investigation she was active there has been at least a death.” The noise in the background ceases. “Here it is, one moment.” There was a long eerie silence. It was broken by three words. “Oh my god.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Two-fifty in the Morning, September 26. Evansville.

A black mustang tore down the streets of Evansville wasting no time in its wake. “Now that was over with I can get back to my own plans,” Vix mused. She wasn’t worried on going back on her word with the pack. She had all the information she needed to make sure that none of them will survive this confrontation with Dan. Dan will either kill them all, and Vix had no problem of removing him from the equation as well. Or they kill Dan, and with a slight change in orders the entire Ranger team will be there to take down the entire pack.

“They’re all bloodthirsty anyway. Dan isn’t going to be fooled by some distraction. After the way Lisa reacted from their phone conversation, she wants Dan dead as much as the FBI.” Vix smiled as she thought on the matter. Dan’s death will settle the investigation, and the death of the pack will quench Vix’s lust for vengeance. Everything is falling together perfectly…

Her attention was snapped toward Wendy. “She was the one that helped out in contacting the Ranger team.” Vix wasn’t sure on the notion of betraying Wendy. She’s a federal agent, and a close to a friend Vix had in a long time. “She wasn’t a lycanthrope yet,” Vix tried to reason with herself. “There’s no need to have her caught up in this.” Vix thinks of rescuing Wendy from this ordeal. “I’ll just order Ranger team to leave her, its not like they’ll be willing to kill her either.” There was one sinkhole. “What if Dan tries to kill her again?”

Vix’s cell phone started to vibrate. She slows down her car and flips it open. It was an email text message from a Ranger member. It reads:

Report on Dan Ramer’s actions and whereabouts.
A local farming equipment store reported missing 500lbs of Ammonium Nitrate. Recent video footage shows that Dan Ramer was responsible. Coupled with the report of missing Hydrazine from a nearby chemical facility, Dan Ramer could be making the explosive compound Astrolite-G. Additional evidence is being sought after to confirm his involvement in attaining this chemical. Be on heightened alert.

“A trap,” Vix figured, “but why meet up with them at a clearing? An outside explosion wouldn’t guarantee much.” Vix started to ponder deeper into Dan’s logic. She knew he had those chemicals and she knew that he used unconventional tactics. The rendezvous point made no sense in setting off an explosive. Dan would want to do as much damage possible to the pack and setting up there would mean at least two deaths, Sharon and her rescuer. The majority of the pack would stay in the trees.

Vix had a sudden epiphany. “Of course!” she dawned. Dan and Sharon were never going to be there. When the pack sees that they aren’t there, they’ll be out scouting the area for him. The location where he called from wasn’t far from the rendezvous point. Still, why there? It was only trees on the map.

After parking in front of the building where the rest of the Ranger team was going to meet up, Vix opened her laptop and examined the map of Robert’s Forest. She overlaid a filter on that map that showed trails and off-roads. She sees that there was a trail leading to the location Dan called from. Unlike all the other trails on the map which loops and connects, this particular one ends right on top of Dan. “Weird,” she thought as she closes the laptop. She enters the building with two things plaguing her mind, her concern for Wendy and why Dan chose that spot.
