"I wish I were home in my room," I whispered without thinking. Immediately, the hard concrete of the sidewalk was replaced by the softness of my bed. My head still smarting, I stood up and looked around.
Well, that was one way to save myself.
But what was she doing now?
I stood up and looked in the mirror attached to my dresser.
"I wish I could see and hear the woman who just kicked me and what's happening around her."
My reflection faded, and I saw the woman, very angry, looking around among a group of very puzzled bystanders.
"Where are you?" she was screaming. "Don't think you're going to get away from me! I'll track you down and find you and make you so sorry you did this to me!"
I had to think. What do I do to calm her down, to make things up to her. Can I make things up to her?
