Lee walked along the road feeling his prize jiggle in his shirt pocket. Walking slowly with nothing to look forward to he watched the ground for anything of interest.
Having walked for two miles Lee decided in was time to turn around and walk back on the otherside of the road. He did this for two good reasons. The distance was far enough, as he had to walk two miles home. The best reason was that a ways further was Gilkee's Hog farm and the smell could turn you to stone.
Lee had little to do today, his wife told him to trim some bushes and the lawn needed some care. Anyway he was bored and cared little for housework.
The breeze pickup a smell he hadn't noticed on his way here before. As he walked signs of a car animal collision showed on that side of the road. The smell of rotting flesh in summer sun was strong to the nose.
Looking toward the road ditch he saw what might have been on of Mr. Gilkee's hogs, dead with it's neck broke. The collision with the car justabout burst the critter.
Lee turned again to the road, "poor dumb animal, had it good on the farm and got under the fence only to get killed here."
Stepping back on the road surface Lee spotted something odd. Reaching down he picked up a blue rectangle tag. The tag had a six didget number on one side and the name George on the other.
Lee thought, must have been a tag for the dead hog. Being rightous he thought to bring it to Mr. Gilkee and let him know he lost a hog. Turning around Lee took two steps and remembered the stinch, turned toward home again. I'll mail the thing to him.
