Kevin contemplates his situation. The once young man has, much like countless others, discovered first hand the true purpose of pleasure island.
At first, he wished to escape and find a way to inform others so this fate will not befall them!
Unfortunately, despite his initial resistance to giving into the urges of the species he's become, Kevin has discovered that even he is having trouble controlling an emerging and strengthening ego.
The part of Kevin's mind that screams "me, me, me!" was of normal strength before he came to the island. Now however, it is pushing out the part of his mind that wishes to consider how his actions will effect others.
Brian stands beside Kevin. Rather then see Brain as some poor soul which has fallen under the spell of a beast, Kevin is discovering that his ego is making him see Brain as competition. The desire to care about his fellow man (even if the aforementioned man is currently a jackass) is waning. In its place, a lust is gaining strength.
Kevin brays in protest. He shakes his head knowing that the sound cannot possibly have come from him. For, in Kevin's mind, a human cannot become a donkey! What's happening therefore, must be a lie!
If Kevin concentrates enough (something becoming increasingly hard. Kevin is discovering that it is as though he's contracted a form of attention deficit disorder the likes of which no doctor has ever seen) he swears he can still feel his hands and feet. However, his human knowledge, (something he's grateful for), knows that this is an illusion. A glance downward confirms the existence of hooves at the end of his legs ... all four of them!
The young donkey wonders if his memories of being human are a lie and with this apparent transformation, that he's discovered the truth!
More cerebral concerns appear to be a thing of the past! Kevin is seeing Veronica in a new light. No longer is she the former young woman condemned to the same terrible fate as he. Kevin shakes his head at the thought of his future! A lifetime as a jackass while free from responsibility and worry will be free of the freedom to decide! No longer is he a person, from this point on Kevin is property, little more then a piece of equipment!
The donkey brays, eliciting similar brays from his cagemates! Panic flows from within his mind and his thoughts grow dim. Veronica’s scent seems stronger. Kevin cannot stop staring at her and thinking thoughts that for his human form were inappropriate, for his current form are part of nature.
He sees Brain charging towards the jenny. Kevin brays at Brian protesting but it is to no avail! He watches as Brain acts upon the urges that will guide him for the rest of his days. Kevin can only wonder how much of Brain is left in that body and how much of the donkey’s actions are instinct.
When Brain has finished the act, Kevin snorts. He’s finding himself becoming jealous of Brain! He shakes his head but it’s a losing battle. His body moves as though he’s dreaming. His awareness of what is happening fades and he finds himself on a sort of autopilot. Sensations of pleasure override shame. Kevin finds himself braying and enjoying giving into the lust.
Kevin is not sure how much time has passed when he finds himself off Veronica and standing on the opposite side of the stall. He knows what he did, but like recalling a dream where his conscious thoughts were set aside for emotion, and instinct, details are becoming hard to remember.
The former human understands that he must escape before the instincts take over and he becomes a slave to them!
