Doing some quick calculations, Jamie figured out that there were fifteen people that knew at least something about playing chess. That meant it would be pretty even with the ones that he had never seen. Then there was Peter and Allen. He had played them before, and they had each beaten him at one point or another.
He took a few minutes to figure out the seeding for this single elimination tournament. He couldn't help but think of how high the stakes were. Of course, if you lost, it was no big deal. You'd simply go back to what you had been before it started. But if you WON! Well, that would be another story entirely!
Once the seeding was done, he posted them, and the participants went to where they would be playing. Peter and Allen just grinned at each other, and the three of them went to play their games as well.
After round one, Jamie, Allen and Peter had all three won their matches, and nine of the members of the chess club were out. That meant there were still eight others left. He was surprised it was still dead even eight to eight. Obviously, there were some that knew about chess! He found out that some of the players had gotten overconfident and eliminated themselves. The rest were just outmatched. Who would've thought?
Oh well. it was rewards time. He took off to find Peter and Allen.
