You show Rachel the sentence that she wrote on the hotel receipt. It now reads: "Devotion Helps Keep__________of Friends".
"Marina! No!" she yells. "Ben - we have to go back!"
You reflect on this for a moment. You like Marina - she's a kind soul. You're not close to her, but in another life you think you and her would've made great cousins. And she's a long-time friend of Rachel's.
So despite the risks you agree. "Let's do it!"
Taking a somewhat-more crowded boat back to the island, you both quick step through the milling mass of excited-looking tourists when you reach dry land again. At the reception desk of the hotel, the staff there don't seem at all surprised to see you two back again.
"Where are our friends?" you ask them bluntly.
"In particular, where is Marina?" Rachel describes her to them.
"Calm down, sir, miss," the receptionist smiles sweetly. "Your friends left a message for you here. They are all in Miss Gomez's chalet. Number 9, behind the main hotel block. And you can leave your luggage here."
"Ur... Okay." You do that - then, trembling, get out the receipt again, to check on the 'status' of your friends once more. There's no further change... Hold on, 'Memories' has reappeared - but it's faint. You show it to an apprehensive Rachel.
"That's odd," she considers. "Maybe it's not too late for Marina!"
"Let's find out!" You both run over to the chalet, and knock on the door. A nervous-looking Felicia Gomez opens the door. Grateful to see you, she urges you inside.
Deirdre and Harry are surprised, but relieved, when you and Rachel enter the lounge. "You're back - but you said...," gasps Deirdre.
"We had a premonition something was up," you reply. Meanwhile, Rachel is staring at a distraught Marina, who's quietly sobbing, as she sits in a chair. She tries to hide away from you, only to be restrained by Rachel.
And no wonder she wants to hide. Clad only in her ripped bathing top, Marina's half-formed hooves, and now-longer blonde hair are clearly visible, as are her pointed, twitching ears. The beginnings of her horns are poking out from her temples.
