Suddenly, a thought hit me. I turned Ms. Barnes into a baby and now I was to be discovered. I knew that it was going to be by my mother, who would probably the most understanding. But, then agian, she might want to share my new powers. I wasn't going to take that chance.
I waited for her to come into the house. I stood by the front door, Ms. Barnes in my arms. The baby was fussing but I wished her to sleep and instantly she closed her eyes.
As my mother approached the door, my anger started to grow. She WAS going to want to share my new power or even try to take it from me. She was like that, they all were. This power is mine, I thought to myself and gritted my teeth. I stood there, jaw set, anger glistening in my eyes as the handle of the front door turned and the door swung open.
"Hi honey," my mom said and looked at the baby. "Whose..."
I stopped her in mid sentence. She stood there frozen, a questioning look on her face. In her hands was a briefcase which she was in the middle of putting down when I stopped her.
"Hi mom." I said to the frozen figure. "Have a nice day at work?"
I walked around her, thinking about how I can prevent her from getting to me.
"Yeah, it must have been tough. You must be DOG tired."
There was a "thunk" as my mom dropped her briefcase. I noticed that her nicely polished fingernails turned black as her fingers shortened.
Then light brown fur crept over the tops. It went all the way back to the cuffs of her blouse.
Then her hands, now paws started to shrink. They went under the sleeve of her blouse up to the middle. The other part hung limply, moving back and forth.
I released her from her frozen state and she instantly fell to the carpet. Her body started to convulse with the internal and external changes going on with shocking swiftness. She managed to look up at me one last time before her new muzzle streached forward and I knew that all human thoughts and memories were now gone. She would think and act like a dog until I changed her back...if I changed her back.
Finally, my mom, now a Collie, relaxed and tried to kick herself out of her useless suit. I put the sleeping Ms. Barnes down and bent over the Collie, releasing her from her last human bondage She stood on all fours and shook her body.
I knelt down and looked into the dog's eyes.
Nothing.
I smiled.
