Amy woke the next morning to her alarm. She shut it off quickly and climbed out of bed. She walked to closet, wondering what wardrobe to wear today. As she was putting on a fresh bra, she noticed that her hair felt different. She finished clasping the bra and then ran her fingers along her hair. It definitely felt softer than usual. She looked in her mirror and saw that it still had the faint shine from the night before. It definitely looked different than the dull locks she was used to seeing. It had more life now, much like the hair she had seen on so many others.
She shook her head. She must be dreaming. She felt the soft strands scrape across her bare back and she realized this was actually true. Did the shampoo finally work? Impossible. Five days without results and then a distinct change on the sixth? She glanced at the clock, remembering the time. She'd have to figure out what happened later...that is, if she wasn't hallucinating everything.
At school she met up with Lina, who was wearing her new earrings. "Aren't they something? I've already gotten compliments on them. Hey, speaking of compliments, your hair looks really good today!"
Amy perked up at this news. If Lina could see it it must be real. "Yeah, I don't know what happened. Maybe it's the weather? In any case, I hope it stays like this!"
Well, it certainly didn't stay like that, as Amy discovered the very next morning. As she was admiring her reflection in the mirror, she could tell there was a serious improvement from just the day before. Her hair was developing light ripples, no longer impossibly straight and lanky. The dull brown was changing to a dark but shiny copper color, and how it had grown! Two days ago it was at her shoulder blades, but today it was over halfway down her back. More than a year's growth in so short a time!
"This is crazy," she told herself as she flicked her head from side to side, watching the strands dance about behind her. They were framing her face better than ever. No shampoo or weather condition in the world could do something like this.
Then she remembered the wish she had made in the mirror. Was it possible that it was actually coming true? That would mean the store really was magical, and that...her hair really was getting better. It had to be real. Her family could see it, Lina could see it...her wish was coming true!
