"So Hannah told me you actually chose to change sex, it wasn't just random?" Jackie was snuggled comfortably with her head on Keith's flat, sinewy chest and Keith's arm around her shoulder, a little bit away from the fire.
"Hannah talks a lot." Keith chuckled. "But, yes, I chose this body."
"Why?"
"Let's just say I wasn't making a great success out of being a woman. How are you liking being female?"
"I don't know. On one hand, it feels very, very good right now, and on the other, I keep thinking I should be freaking out to have a man's arm around me."
"I'm glad you're not, freaking out I mean."
"It's like I could either spend the next thirty days fighting the change and being miserable, or I could just go with it and see what happens. Just seeing how well you're doing as a man--it feels very natural right now being who I am."
"Would you like to go where we could have a little more privacy, Jackie?"
"Ummm, that sounds nice, but I think there might be a little problem there."
"What problem?"
"If you and I go somewhere away from everyone else, I just might end up having sex with you." She could feel Keith's heart beat faster through his chest.
"I'm not sure I see the problem."
Jackie laughed. "Oh Keith, you really have become a guy! The problem is that I really, really don't want to get pregnant. Raising a litter of anthro kittens isn't what I signed on for."
"But" Keith began, and then Cathy's last thought before pressing the male button recurred to him. *Maybe the male anthropomorphic animals were always lording it over the females and badgering them for sex* Keith felt a little ashamed, but at the same time he thought he had a better idea of why men acted the way they did. "No, you're right."
Keith began again. "You notice, though, that there aren't a lot of kittens or cubs or fawns around, and I bet someone's having sex. Maybe there's a contraceptive that people use."
Jackie replied. "Hmmm, I bet there is--the people running the park can do all kinds of tricks with biology. I bet Hannah would know."
"Do you want me to ask her?"
"No." Jackie began to disentangle herself from Keith. "I'm going to ask her." She smiled. "It's a girl thing."
