Not too far away, a girl is standing on the seashore, watching you. Presently, she walks toward you, holding something out. "Fish?" she says, and you see that she's offering you a sizable salmon. Hungrily, you snatch it from her hands. You're about to eat it right then and there when occurs to you to cook it over your fire. Searching around at the edge of the woods, you find two forked sticks and one straight one, and just like that you've made a spit to turn the fish on.
The girl watches you intently until you remember your manners and thank her, then sits down on the other side of the fire. Looking up from the spit, you get your first good look at her. She's nude, and looks to be about seventeen or eighteen; she doesn't exactly have a killer figure, but she's still well-developed. She looks for the most part Caucasian, but with more than a hint of Asian in her as well. Her hair is long and wavy, a beautiful blue-green; looking elsewhere on her body, you can see that this is in fact her natural hair color. There's also a certain inexplicable fluidity about her motions.
This is all very interesting, of course, but you're worried when you realize that you're viewing a beautiful, naked girl and not getting even the least bit turned on. In view of this and your various catlike behaviors (disregarding the obedience spell and your sudden interest in fish,) you hope the witch's transformations don't entail any mental changes.
The fish is done, and you eagerly pull it off the spit and tear in. The girl watches you for a while, then speaks. "I presume you had a run-in with the witch?" she asks. You nod.
"I thought as much," she says. "I did too, some time ago. My name's Jeremy, and as you may or may not have guessed, I'm a sea-nymph."
You blink. "'Jeremy?' You used to be male too?"
She nods. "A long time ago, yes. Five years, I think. I didn't keep very close track, but counting the tide cycles, it should be somewhere around there."
Not knowing what to say to that, you change the subject. "Do you know a way out of here?" you ask. You're still getting used to your new voice, and it's disconcerting to hear how helpless you sound with this last question. Jeremy shrugs.
"Depends on what you mean by 'out,'" she says. "If you just mean 'out of the forest,' you've already accomplished that. If you mean 'back home,' that's a little more complicated. The shoreline stretches more than six days' swim in either direction, all of it unbroken forest past the beach. And I've gone three weeks' swim out into the ocean without spotting another landmass. I'm not sure this is the same world we came from. Maybe the forest is magic; maybe it has an exit in a different world than the entrance."
You stare at her, realizing the gravity of the situation. Until now, you were concerned strictly with getting home and finding a means of changing back. Now it seems as though your chief concern is getting back to your own universe, let alone home. "What can we-what can I do?" you ask, not wanting to presume.
"Hey," Jeremy says, "you can make it 'we' as far as I'm concerned. The way I see it, we have five options: we can search the shoreline, looking for an edge to the forest, we can build you a raft and sail to sea, looking for another continent with people who can get us home, we can search the woods for an exit back to our world, or we can storm the witch's house take her prisoner, and try to get her to change us back and send us home."
