Samantha stared up at the ceiling, which suddenly felt awfully close. "It's kind of cramped in here," she said. "It's okay to go outside, right?"
"Totally," Tricia replied.
"I think I'm going to try out these wings." Sam started for the door and Tricia eagerly followed. Once outside, Sam paused and glanced around. Tricia noticed her ears swiveling around rapidly. "Wow. I can hear things. And smell things..." she shivered as a gust of wind blew across the two transformed girls. Their long sets of hair tossed about. Sam rubbed her hands across her upper arms. "I feel so different! Trish, is this how it is with you, too?"
Tricia's large cow ears perked themselves up, allowing her to take in a variety of previously-inaudible sounds. She could hear cars on the distant highway and insects chirping loudly. The smell of a roasted turkey wafted from a next-door window. "It's pretty amazing," she responded after a minute. "Honestly, I didn't even expect this when I first changed myself. All I wanted was a tail, and now look at me!"
Sam grinned back at Tricia, then stared up at the wide-open blue sky above them. She laughed gleefully as she ran across her front lawn. Her wings spread themselves wide and she made an incredible leap. The sandy wings flapped madly in the air, taking her higher and higher. Samantha zoomed into the sky with awe-inspiring grace and speed. Soon she was nothing bigger than an ant from Tricia's vantage point on the ground. She watched her friend soar and began to wonder what it felt like.
Then she remembered the remote in her hand.
