Without a second thought, you punch the monster assaulting that man. You feel its flesh give for a moment before it's blown back and sent whimpering into the night. You try to help the man to his feet, but he's just staring blankly into the distance. His shuddering voice starts to creep through his lips, and finally you're given assurance that he's at least managed to survive.
"What... what did we do? Why? Damn us for being so fucking confident, we should have seen this in the plans..."
"Plans?" you ask.
"Oh... oh yes. The plans. My company, we're the biggest supplier of costumes in the world, but our market share has been shrinking. People have started buying cheaper, more popular brands... quality doesn't matter as long as you can be Batman for a few bucks.
We wanted to change that, so we found a talented young scientist who'd created this process, one that could create a costume that reacts like living flesh. He'd basically invented an organic latex that could meld with its wearer. It was incredible. Unfortunately, the idea was flawed.
When we made our first prototype, it was a sort of animal costume, and I was dazzled by it. It was like magic: they'd paint his feet and they'd turn into paws, they'd paint his tailbone and he'd sprout a tail, they'd paint his face and he'd grow a muzzle. We were doing the impossible.
