I was still trying to stt up, but was gradually realizing that my arms weren't working well either.
Lily walked over, and I was startled to see how big she suddenly seemed. She seemed a good 50% bigger than I remembered, and it was slowly dawning on me that her mother had probably done something relatively drastic to me.
She kneeled down in front of me, and brought her face down to mine. "I guess Mom was serious about this..." She sighs.
I try to ask her just what exactly her mother has done to me, but my tongue feels strange against my mouth, and all that I manage is a vaguely inquisitive-sounding noise somewhere between a grunt and a chirp. I add my voice to my steadily growing mental list of things that don't seem to be working quite right.
She seems to get the message though. "You want to get a good look at what she did?" Not trusting myself to speak, I nod instead.
She reaches forward and lifts me up by the armpits. She's definitely bigger than I remember, and she has no trouble carrying me in front of her, looking into my eyes with a slightly apologetic look. She starts walking towards her room, saying something about how this will all be ok, and she'll see what she can do about it, but I'm only half listening. I'm extremely conscious suddenly of just how beautiful she is, and how much I really do love her. The sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach, sucks any pleasure out of the situation, however. I become aware of something unfamiliar blocking part of my field of vision. Has my nose gotten bigger?
We get to her room, and she turns me around. I see we've stopped in front of her full-length mirror on her door, and I get my first good look at just what is going on.
At first, I think I'm looking at an image of Lily holding a cat. The position is about right. Did her mom turn me into some kind of familiar? But then I start noticing the details. For one thing, whatever she's holding is a bit bigger than a cat. More like a medium-small dog. And the proportions are wrong. There is a long, thick tail coming from the base, and the legs seem to come out of the sides more than out of the bottom, more like a crocodile than a cat. And of course, cats are not usually green and covered with scales.
Taking all of this in took less than a moment, and now I realize just what has been going on this whole time. Lily's mom has turned me into a dragon! Small sized, but unmistakably a dragon, straight out of a story book! In hindsight, maybe calling her mom one wasn't such a good idea.
Lily hugs me tighter, and whispers "we'll figure something out..." I hope she's right.
