Zinger noticed the chaperone (because the frat was known for their wild parties, the school had started making them require one) Mr. Mitorpid sitting by himself on a couch, sipping a water.
"Hey dude, what's up? Why are you sitting all by yourself?" He said coming over.
Mr. Mitorpid gave him a shy smile. "Well, I'm a bit older than all of you aren't I?"
"Dude it's okay. Aren't you alumni?"
"Yeah, it's been forever since I saw the place. Some of my best memories happened here."
Mr. Mitorpid and Zinger chatted for over an hour, completely unaware of the party raging around them. Mr. Mitorpid told him all his memories of the fraternity, the parties and the pranks and all the other things too.
"Yeah, I was always sort of the odd man out--the smart kid, you know? I was small and skinny and all the other guys were the jock type. Classic frat guy. They looked at me like a younger brother, I guess. It was cool getting to hang out with the cool crowd but I always was sort of envious that I never got to be popular like them."
Mr. Mitorpid pulled out an old picture of himself with his frat buddies and showed Zinger.
"Dude, you were adorable!"
"I'm really flattered that you say that. I wish I could have saw that in myself years ago... but now it's too late, I guess." At this, Mr. Mitorpid hesitated and fidgeted. "You see, I'm gay and it took me years to come out. I guess I'm only telling you 'cus I've heard you're gay too, right?"
"Yeah but it's no big deal. All the bros are okay with it."
"Wow. You're lucky to be young now instead of 20 years ago." With that, Mr. Mitorpid gave a forlorn sigh and gazed into his beer.
Zinger stared at him for a moment, mind racing. This guy was still loyal to his frat after 20 years, and here he was lamenting the youth he never got to have. Zinger had the power to change that... he may have found the perfect candidate.
"You know what, Mr. Mitorpid? I'm gonna get you a beer."
