David was already pinned by that bastard. With no ammo, he was basically naked except the knife he could only use in his off hand. Still, he knew he could never run away from this thing. There was no chance of escape; he had to take it on.
He waved his knife out where he knew his prey could see it, and shouted, "HEY. LOKI! Why don't you take me on like a man?!" At first he heard nothing but silence, but then he heard footsteps crunching fallen leaves. This was it. The thing had apparently accepted his challenge, and they would finish this here and now.
David walked out into the open, eyeing the Loki that now stood
no more than two meters away from him and held a short, wood-handled knife. For a time, the two foes merely circled each other, neither so much as flinching, both waiting for their opponent to make the first move. It was David who would strike first, thrusting his knife straight for the Loki's heart... and narrowly missing as his nemesis deftly skipped aside and dodged the blow. As he stumbled forward, the hunter felt something soft and wet graze his cheek. He felt at it with the unchanged wrist of his good arm, and where he'd been struck he could feel the same smooth skin that now covered his hand. Looking back at the Loki, he saw not a knife in its hand but a paintbrush, the slightest bit of green paint dripping from its tip. The mischievous creature holding the brush was simply standing there, smiling a broad and wildly amused smile. Once again, it was making a fool of him, apparently taunting him with the fact that it could paint his entire body with a single brush before he could land one serious hit. Still, David knew that it was true. Even if he lined up a perfect blow, it'd just bend reality to avoid it. He didn't stand a chance.
