Wolf Coven - The Hunt

added by TimGee250 15 years ago O

“Of course you’re hungry Heather; imagine how much energy we must have used changing like this. We need to eat something, we need to hunt, there’s bound to be a flock of sheep that we can use.”

Heather squirmed uncomfortably in her new body. Was she to actually use the horrible fangs that filled her jaws? Dita came closer, nuzzling her. “You’re a predator Heather. Let’s GO. Get up.” Reluctantly, Heather went to all fours.

Dita barked twice quietly to Rachel, hoping that she would get the message that it was time for her to go back to the hotel. Rachel nodded, putting on her clothes, a tear rolling down her cheek. “Guys, I’m going to put your clothes under the rocks by that cairn we passed on the way up, and I’ll call home to let everyone know you’re OK.” She gave the two werewolves each a hug and then set off for Dingle’s Main Street.

It was time to hunt.

Heather hated her form, but once she got used to moving on all fours, she couldn’t help but appreciate its efficiency. Werewolves can run just over forty miles per hour and though their coats insulate them against both the heat and cold, they are also highly sensitive. Heather could feel every shift in the wind on her body.

Their hypersensitive noses quickly led them to a flock of sheep, most sleeping.

“Heather, I know you’re upset at all this, but we have to do this.” Unwilling to tolerate an empty belly any longer, Dita pounced on the sheep that seemed to be on guard, sinking her fangs into its throat, savoring the rush of warm blood then shaking the life out of the lamb.

Heather whimpered and did the same, going after the second standing sheep. Her first attack missed, but she quickly recovered and bit down hard.

It was exquisite. Blood soaked her teeth and gums and she felt the hot tangy metallic taste in her mouth. She shook her head instinctively and the sheep perished. Heather came to her senses with the final pathetic bleat, but she was unable to stop herself as the feeding instinct took over, shredding the fleshy muscles, crushing the bones devouring the sheep.

It was utterly delicious. Heather was shaken at the prospect; within an hour she had gone from a diminutive teenaged girl to a prowling beast ravaging livestock. She raised her head high and howled; a cry that was soon joined by the white wolf beside her.

Rachel heard the cry as she was walking to the hotel, and she prayed silently that everything was all right with her friends. She withdrew her cell phone from her pack.

Debra sat with Lisa waiting anxiously, not only over the well-being of their daughters, but in anticipation over what would take place when the moonlight touched them.

“No word on when Wendy will be back from Pittsburgh today. She still doesn’t know that the first few transformations last until the end of the full moon cycle.”

Debra sighed. “Should have been up front with her in the beginning. Heather took it well enough relative to everything else.” She looked at the clock in the living room. “Oh Lord, Lisa, they should be changing right about now.” Lisa rubbed Debra’s shoulder. “I wish we could have been with them. They must be scared half to death.”

“I know I was, even though I’d wanted it.”

The phone rang.

“Hello? Yes…oh god how are you Rachel…wait let me put you on the speaker phone so Lisa can hear too.”

“Yeah…Um, I just got back to the hotel. Dita and Heather are both wolves now, an’ I guess they are looking for food.”

“How did the transformation go, honey?”

A pause. “Debra, both were really frightened. Heather was absolutely terrified; I spent most of the time trying to comfort her.”

“You didn’t get bitten, did you, none of their teeth broke the skin?”

“No, I was really careful about that. I gotta tell you, they really are beautiful.”

Both women smiled at this. “OK, Rachel, thank you so much for calling. Stay safe, sweetie.”

“Will do, see ya in a few days.” She hung up.

“I guess that settles that,” said Lisa to Debra. Now all we have to do is wait for our Indian friend.
