John sighed heavily, looking discontent.
"What's the matter, honey?" Carrie asked, wondering what could be bringing her husband down on their honeymoon.
"I'm just not feeling it...you know...the whole pumpkin thing..." John said.
"Aww, baby...then take it off," Carrie said, tugging at his costume, trying to help him out of it. "Why didn't you say anything at the store?"
"I'm sorry, honey, but you just seemed so amused by it all," John explained as he slid the costume off over his head, "I tried to like it, but it's just not doing it for me."
"Well," Carrie said, "Maybe we can make it back to the store in time to get you a new one."
"Are you sure?" John asked, "You don't have to come with me, I can go and come back."
"It's fine," Carrie said, tugging at her own costume, "Besides, I don't want to be a pumpkin without you, so I need a new one too."
John kissed her deeply, then headed downstairs with her, where they were greeted by the dreary innkeeper.
"Are you going out...without costumes?" he asked, smiling an eerie smile at them, though keeping his droll tone.
"It's totally safe, right?" asked Carrie, "I mean, we filled out the survey and all, and said we didn't want anything dangerous to happen to us."
"Halloween has a spirit all it's own, madame," he droned, "and you'd be wise to remember that. Halloween is a time for creatures of the night to roam freely....creatures who have been known to dine on flesh and blood of mortal man," he threw a glance at Carrie, "and woman."
"Ha ha, very funny, chum," John said, "but you're pouring on the creep factor just a little too much right now. How about you tone it down a bit, huh?"
"But in daylight, it's safe, right?" Carrie asked, a little spooked.
The creepy innkeeper smiled at her again, that infuriating smile, "You've got little daylight left. Just where were you planning to go?"
"To get a couple new costumes," she said, holding up the pumpkin skins, "These just weren't right for us."
"I would suggest waiting until tomorrow to venture that far out madame," the innkeeper said, "You two would be far safer in your rooms for the night. But..."
