Paul didn't know what to do. He couldn't just stand around the Lairds' house in his
oversized clothes. Nor could he return home to his sons who'd question their suddenly
shorter father.

Though a good deal shorter than Paul, at 5'4", Jake's overall bulk was still quite imposing.
